In what ways does my magazine use, develop and

challenge forms and conventions of real

magazines?

Direct mode of address

I have challenged the codes and

conventions of real magazines by not

using direct mode of address on my

double page spread.

I have decided to not follow the codes and

conventions on this because I decided it

would be better and suit the article more if

I had the artist looking at his guitar, which

would then direct attention to the guitar,

and make the focus on his music and not

the artist, which reflects one of the themes

of my magazine.

However, I have used DMOA in the rest of

my photos, which shows I have also used

this convention, as well as developing it.

Magazine Cover

I have followed the majority of the codes

and conventions magazine covers.

I included a banner showing articles

included in the magazine, alongside

another which has the price and other

information about the magazine. I’ve

included 3 feature articles alongside the

right of the magazine, which is another

feature that was prominent in my research.

I also followed codes and conventions in

that I used a promotion at the top of the

cover, and put a sub heading below the

main cover line.

Contents PageAgain, I followed a large number of codes

and conventions with my contents page. I

used the normal style of having a column

of contents alongside the right-hand side

of the page, similar to ‘Kerrang!’ & ‘NME’,

and I kept the colours consistent of that

throughout the rest of my magazine, which

is another code and convention of

magazine contents pages.
