• Slavic imagery gives these stories authenticity

• This is important to ground the work

• Illustration is a HUGE area

• Traditions in illustration differ from country to country

• Believable setting is important to provide a solid foundation for characters, props, vehicles, creatures etc.

• All elements must be aesthetically connected

• To understand this idea of “place” we must understand the underlying cultural differences in artistic tradition.
