A New Year,A New Start
Fall Session 2010 Issue two
30thOpening doo to the arts since 1979
Did you know?· The Fulton County Arts Council (FCAC) is a cultural leader in Fulton County and the largest funder of the arts in the State of Georgia. The arts contribute to the quality of life of our community; to the development of our children; and to the economic well-being of the County.
· The mission of the Fulton County Arts Council is to make the arts accessible to all citizens. In 2008 more than 4500 children and adults participated in arts classes at Fulton County Art Council arts centers and 1900 children attended spring break or summer break camps at these same centers.
· Arts in education have a measurable impact in student performance and can also be an effective tool in delinquency prevention and intervention strategies for at-risk youth:
1. Students who participate in the arts have increased academic performance and decreased dropout rates 2. High School students who participate in four years or more of art and music classes score an average of 83 points higher on SATs than their peers who have taken 1 year or less of art and music classes 3. The evaluation of youth who participated in the FCAC Art-at-Work Program indicated that the participating youth, compared to a control group, had a 50% decrease in re-occurrence of delinquent behavior.
