The timeless tale of Mother Goose is this year's offering from Youlgrave Village Hall for its 53rd annual family pantomime. Producer Jan Wilson and Director Nic Wilson (no relation!) have been beavering away through the summer months writing, re-writing and honing the a new script into shape. And since September the cast and crew of over 70 volunteers have been busy rehearsing, making costumes, hand painting back-drops, constructing props and getting on with the hundreds of back-stage tasks that go into putting on a village pantomime. Jan Wilson said "This year we have strong cast, lead by much loved favourites Nic Wilson as the Dame Mother Goose, Simon Edmonds as the baddie Squire Ferdinand Fox, Katie Henwood as the Fairy Feather and Tess Edmonds as the principle boy, but we are also joined by some new faces and excitingly we have six new youngsters joining the chorus for the first time". The team have also been joined by a new Choreographer, Kim Robinson - known to many across the Peak District for her popular Derbyshire Dales sponsored dancing and fitness classes - and she has a l ready been putting the cast old and new through the i r paces.

Director Nic Wilson said "The great thing about a village pantomime such as this is that it's not only good fun and an opportunity for our many volunteers to learn new skills, both on and off the stage, but at the same time benefits the community as all the money raised is put back into our community projects " Everyone is most welcome at all the performances, but for 4th February 2015 we are making some small changes to the performance to create a welcoming, less formal atmosphere to help reduce anxiety levels, particularly for those with an Autistic Spectrum Condition, learning disability or sensory and communication disorders - this relaxed performance aims to give those who otherwise might feel excluded the chance to experience our pantomime. Mother Goose runs from 28th January 2015 - 31st January 2015 and 4th - 7th February 2014 every evening from 7.30pm with matinee performances on both Saturday afternoons from 2.30pm. Ticket prices have been kept low at £6.25 for adults and £3.25 for children. For the Wednesday and Thursday performances we are offering 1 free ticket with every 10 purchased. So, call the box Office on 01629 828 215 or buy your tickets online at www.yvh.org.uk/panto Expect larger-than-life characters, loads of laughs, beautiful costumes, stunning dance moves, live music and of course…… plenty of heroes to cheer and baddies to boo! Don't miss it!

The next Land Art Workshop is right in the realm of The Winter Solstice time. This is a very special time, particularly in Derbyshire, where the depth and stillness of the Solstice can be keenly felt. We are all starting this journey now, moving down to the point of stillness, to darkness, to holding, before we emerge again, with new jewels to bring out into the growing light. The workshop will be on 18th December and start at the studio in Matlock, 9.30am to 2.30pm. See www.vivekabowry.co.uk/workshops for more information.

Wirksworth choir Raise Your Voices commemorates the remarkable events of Christmas Day, 1914, when guns fells silent and opposing armies met in No Man’s Land, exchanging tokens of goodwill, sharing food, drink and cigarettes, some even playing a “friendly” game of football around the trenches. The performance will take place in St Mary’s Church, Wirksworth on 8 December at 7.30. Tickets £5 each are available from Traid Links, Market Place, Wirksworth from Saturday 8th November, at a cost of £5.00. Profits will go to charity. Music includes Christmas carols, some as sung on the day of the truce; German, French and English songs reflect the global nature of the conflict, while others deal with eternal themes of loss, memory, longing, war and peace Marion Heasman 01629 821 816 [email protected]
