• This is a government and lottery funded organisation

• It is one of the major sources of funding for the arts

• You can apply to trusts – who have usually been set up to give money to charities /Not for Profit organisation

• They get their money from donations and members who raise money

• They are often set up to support specific areas of work –e.g.

young people – prisoners – ex-offenders

older adults - people with disabilities

Trusts ·National Foundation for Youth Music distributes lottery money to

music based arts projects working with young people from birth to 25 years of age

Jerwood Charitable Foundation provides funding for a wide range of arts based activities from circuses to literature

Paul Hamlyn Foundation funds arts projects that address issues of inequality and disadvantage, particularly in relation to young people

Esmée Fairbairn Foundation funds arts projects which “serve audiences” and “support artists”

Clore Duffield Foundation has an emphasis on supporting children, young people and vulnerable individuals

Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation supports the development of new art-making in any art form

Baring Foundation provides funding for arts based programmes; guidelines for each year’s grant-making appear on its website

to the visual and performing arts and to literature • The Paul Hamlyn Foundation has three priority areas of funding: the arts in

the UK, education in the UK, and overseas projects that are concentrated in India

• Esmée Fairbairn Foundation makes grants to organisations which aim to improve quality of life for people and communities in the UK, both now and in future 

• The Clore Duffield Foundation concentrates its support on the arts and education, particularly performing arts education, museum and gallery education and cultural leadership training

• The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation supports pioneering developments in the fields of Arts, Education, Social Change and Anglo-Portuguese Cultural Relations

• The Santander Foundation was set up in 1990 to provide a focus for activities with the voluntary sector

• SANE is a leading UK charity that improves the lives of people affected by mental illness

• Youth Music supports music-making activities and provides opportunities for 0-18 year olds who would otherwise not get the chance

local groups can apply for small amounts of money for community enhancement projects – there can be an arts element as part of the activity - e.g. the youth club grant could include a series of drama workshops or Community centre activities grant may include a photography or performance for families

• They are difficult and require patience and tenacity

• Attention to detail – you must read carefully the criteria for the application and what information they require

• How you need to present that information• Be prepared to be monitored and evaluated • Write regular reports • Keep rigorous financial accounts
