OUSHI ZOKEI (MOBIUS IN SPACE) (2009)Artist: Keizo Ushio (Japan) Esplanade railway station
This sculpture was carved from a single solid piece of granite, beautifully crafted with a highly polished finish; the form is highlighted with the use of Japanese red ochre.
62
SIR CHARLES COURT MEMORIAL (2011)Artist: Tony Jones and Ben Jones (Australia) St Georges Tce (Cnr Spring St)
A strong advocate for WA, Sir Charles Court served as a Member of the WA Parliament for 29 years (Premier from 1974-1982). During his time in Government, Sir Charles Court would frequently stroll down the hill from Parliament House to the CBD along this route.
59
GROW YOUR OWN (2011) Artist: James Angus (Australia/USA) Forrest Place
The grow-your-own organic farming movement that originated in the early 20th century, with the rise of modernist sculpture, is one of the inspirations behind the eye-catching green. The sculpture is the result of the largest art commission ever undertaken in WA.
60
MEMORY MARKERS (2006)Artist: Anne Neil (Australia) Stirling Gardens – cnr Barrack St and The Esplanade
The artwork was inspired by the process of recording and documenting the written history of Stirling Gardens, the State’s first botanical gardens opened in 1845.

63
BABA YAGA’S HOUSES (2011)Artist: Marwa Fahmy (Australia) Museum Park, Aberdeen St, Northbridge
The artwork is inspired by a character in Eastern European folk lore, Baba Yaga, who lived in a hut that stands on dancing chicken legs.
65
KANGAROOS (1997)Artist: Charles Smith and Joan Walsh-Smith (Australia) St Georges Tce, near the corner of Barrack St
The representation of the State’s fauna in the heart of the city on a main city artery could be interpreted as a light-hearted comment on the myth told to overseas visitors that kangaroos can be seen bounding down the city streets of Australia.
66
YAGAN (1984)Artist: Robert Hitchcock (Australia) Heirisson Island (west end)
Yagan was an Australiatralian Whadjuk Nyoongar Aboriginal warrior who played a key part in early indigenous resistance to British settlement and rule in the Perth area. Thought to have been born around 1795, he was the son of Midgegooroo, another central leading figure in Nyoongar aboriginal history.

67
ARCH (2010)Artist: Lorenna Grant (Australia) Cnr James and Lake Streets, Northbridge
The eight meter Arch is a linear rhythm, a beat, a pulse - it’s visual street music. Every colour-contrasted shape has evolved from the harlequin pattern signifying festivity.
68
UNTITLED (2011)Artist: Simon Gilby (Australia) Florence Hummerston Reserve, St Georges Tce
The figure is intended to be ethereal; she is neither a bronzed and impenetrable founding father nor a caricature of a bygone citizen. She is no-one and everyone, living and gone, a presence and a memory.
69
ELIZA (2007)Artist: Tony Jones and Ben Jones (Australia) Matilda Bay, Swan River
Eliza is a testament to the Crawley Baths built in 1914 – an important aquatic centre for swimming training, lifesaving and recreation. With the advent of the modern ‘Olympic’ style pools, the baths fell out of use and were demolished in 1964.
70
WATER LABYRINTH (2012)Artist: Jeppe Hein (Germany) Forrest Place
An interactive water sculpture created exclusively for Forrest Place, the Water Labyrinth shoots jets of water into the air creating nine rooms that disappear as quickly as they emerge. It runs daily from 8am-8pm unless the area is being used for events.
