About Southern Art & Graphics

Since our establishment in the late 1990s we have grown from small premises into our current location in Maitland, Cape Town, where we have nearly 800m2 of warehouse space.

Our high stock levels and dedicated staff members ensure that we offer not only a broad range of products, but also exceptional levels of service. Currently we have 2 full time drivers servicing the greater Cape Town area and our excellent relationship with our road freight carrier ensures that we can send stock to all corners of the country quickly and efficiently.

The development of our “PRIME ART” house brand in 2001 enabled us to offer our

excellent value for money range of artists stretch canvas, brushes, paint sets and artist accessories.

The addition of top international brands ensures we can offer a very broad range of quality art materials to our customers.

We are very proud to represent the following international manufacturers exclusively in Southern Africa: Dynasty artists brushes, Coates English Willow charcoal, Hahnemühle fine art papers, ODIF adhesives, Aristo technical drawing equipment and Art Spectrum artists’ colour and paper.

Prime Art canvas is manufactured from 100% cotton duck with fine quality long-fibre cotton yarn, woven with double warp yarns and single weft yarns.

It does not get rinsed by any alkaline chemicals, ensuring that it maintains its natural tone and fibre f lexibility.

The stretcher frame is made of fine commercially grown wood from sustainable forests, which is steamed and kiln-dried to prevent warping and twisting.

The canvas is triple primed with high quality gesso primer, which maintains f lexibility in extreme temperatures.

The unique coating formulation with an acid-free quality base ensures that the canvas is applicable to both oil and acrylic media.
