We also hosted two private seminars in both countries. San Miguel Corporation brought in many of its own staff and independent contractors for a one day event of training. AchievingGreater Uniformitythrough control of the Damper by Humidity

e moisture loss process is necessary for a more uniform chick hatch. Placing the eggs in a setter that ensures a steady environment with the correct humidity and even distribution of water particles is crucial for this process to be carried out successfully. 0

Moisture loss is influenced by two components during embryonic development. e first being the amount of water in the environment and second, the temperature rise as the embryo develops and as a result generates greater liquid evaporation. In the first period of development, the embryo is endothermic, therefore it does not produce heat. During the second and third period, the embryo becomes exothermic, generating tissue growth and increasing heat production. At this time the greatest loss of moisture through the pores of the egg occurs.0

Regardless of coming from the same flock or having the same laying date, each hen produces eggs with different characteristics. ese characteristics include the size of the egg, number of pores and thickness of the shell. is is why moisture loss will occur in greater uniformity under a more regulated environment. An incubator like the Avida Symphony, where the entire interior is sealed off from outside exposure and the moisture inside is supplied by the eggs will ensure the most ideal environment for embryonic development. 0

Introducing air at the right time is crucial to reduce humidity in the environment and thus achieve the required moisture loss (9.5-11.5% at 18 days of embryonic development). In addition, the gradual opening of the damper contributes to removing heat and CO2 from the egg mass and gives off oxygen, which is necessary for cell growth and development.

Figure 1: Duration of a narrow hatch window as a result of good temperatureuniformity during the incubation process.

Figure 2: e room has an environment with low humidity, causing the incubator’shumidity to go below the set point. e damper is guided by the minimum openingparameter to regulate the incubator according to the room conditions (C. Daniels)

Controlling the damper by humidity gives the machine better stability, generating greater hatch uniformity that will result in a narrower hatch window during the incubation process (Figure 1.)o

With Chick Master single stage setters the humidity can be adjusted accordingly based on the:o

Age of the embryos Genetic line Breeder’s age Altitude above the sea level in which the hatchery is located Environmental conditions in the room (Figures 2 and 3)

is allows the environment to adapt appropriately to the eggs. e above is achieved through opening the damper together with managing pressures in the room and in the plenum.o

Obtaining a suitable environment during incubation translates into a group of chicks that are ready to feed at the same time. is allows them to obtain greater productivity and better performance at the field.

Figure 3: High humidity environment, which is why the damper constantly has to stay above the minimum open set point to control the moisture (C.Daniels)

CLIMATECONTROLSYSTEM

Hall B, Booth #6917

As we close 2017 and start to unwrap the New Year in front of us, it is a good time to say thanks for the support and confidence that you have put in Chick Master to provide incubators, ventilation equipment and service for your hatcheries. o

In a very large world that includes all seven continents, we challenge ourselves daily to meet your expectations both in how the equipment operates and performs in producing high quality chicks. We develop new products to enhance that objective and with those products, we have also learned the importance of training and sharing of information with the users. In this e-News, you’ve seen we have recently had several training events in Southeast Asia and at our factory in Ohio. Earlier in the year we hosted seminars in Latin America. We also have participated in many different events where we were invited to speak as part of an educational program. We are committed to education as part of the process of incubation.o

At the end of 2016 and throughout last year, we have been busy working with many customers on the installation of new Avida Symphony incubators with ROCK control. Many of these hatcheries are just starting up operations and overall the results have been excellent. We are learning to make them even better as the new, more sophisticated ROCK control offers more tools to increase hatch, improve chick quality and reduce energy consumption. In combination with our unique CC3 or Aria Ventilation & Energy Management Systems, many of these new hatcheries have the ability to improve hatch performance with a lower cost per chick. o

e concept of Hatchery in Harmony is what makes the difference when using Chick Master systems as it is not just about the incubators, but it has to include the whole hatchery when making the choice for a new or renovated facility. Chick comfort and quality starts in the first few hours in the setter. Uniform incubator conditions result in a shorter hatch window. e tighter the hatch curve, the less stress is put on the chicks. ose chicks get to the farm and perform better and faster due to reduced stress. Some competitors address higher stress with supplying feed and water for the chicks that hatch too early. Others want to stress the chicks to hatch with higher CO2 and humidity. We believe that uniformity is the real answer to reducing the stress to chicks in the hatch process. is has been proven by hatcheries with Avida incubators over the past fieen years.o

In 2018, we will participate at both the IPPE in Atlanta, Georgia in January and the VIV in Utrecht, Netherlands in June. At both exhibitions we hope to meet with you to show you what Hatchery in Harmony can do for your company in giving you an advantage over your competition.o

On behalf of the entire Chick Master team around the world, we wish you a good and successful 2018 and hope we can be a part of that success with you.
