Visit. Experience. Collect.Welcome to ArtAspen
Let this informative catalog serve as your guide to the second annual ArtAspen. This three-day international fine art fair is the most significant art buying event of the year in Aspen. Internationally acclaimed for decades as an art mecca because of its abundance of art collectors and patrons, Aspen deserves its very own world-class fine art fair. We are pleased to showcase today’s most vibrant art sector – post-war and contemporary art, while paying homage to Aspen’s well-earned reputation as an important fine art marketplace.
Casting a global net, we assembled 28 respected galleries from around the world showing $100 million in important mid-20th and 21st century art. More than 2,000 art treasures are on display for viewing and sale, representing the best work of some 200 respected artists. By presenting this visually compelling experience, our goal is not only to establish ArtAspen as one of the cultural and social highlights of the Aspen season but also to make it a must-see on the calendars of globetrotting art cognoscenti.
ArtAspen 2011 is proudly produced in cooperation with Aspen Art Museum. Both admissions from ticket sales and a portion of art sales from the Opening Preview on Saturday morning benefit the museum. What a terrific way to be able to buy a work of art and make a contribution to the Aspen Art Museum at the same time!
While many fair organizers promote the philosophy that bigger is better, ArtAspen takes a completely different approach. We believe that a carefully vetted and select number of displays will be more in keeping with Aspen’s cultural mandate of presenting only the best of the best. As such, only a portion of the many galleries that applied to exhibit here were selected. We believe that by presenting a boutique fair, attendees will experience a more impactful, comprehensive and manageable show. To stimulate the art viewing and acquisition process, we have created an array of dazzling events and receptions throughout all three days. I invite you peruse the schedule on the following pages and attend those of interest.
As the only major fine art fair in America in August 2011, ArtAspen has generated remarkable buzz. We expect an influx of art enthusiasts eager to visit the galleries and attend the high-profile parties. There’s no better time to invest in art. Enjoy the show.
Sincerely,Rick FriedmanFounder and Executive Director

Nancy Hoffman Gallery opened in SoHo in 1972, among the first contemporary galleries downtown to show paintings, sculpture, drawings, photographs, video, and installations. In October 2008, after more than 35 years in SoHo, the gallery moved to its new home at 520 West 27th Street in Chelsea, a light-filled space with majestically high ceilings and a sculpture garden. Ten years ago the gallery commenced an active and ongoing Projects Space gallery to showcase younger artists. The Projects program continues to grow and develop to introduce new artists to the gallery group and audience. Each artist’s single-minded, obsessive commitment to a personal vision and the process by which that vision is realized links younger to more mature artists.

The gallery represents and exhibits a range of revered and groundbreaking artists such as Robert Motherwell, Christo, Robert Rauschenberg, Manuel Neri, Richard Serra, Judy Pfaff, Bernar Venet, Ann Hamilton, Jessica Stockholder and Zhang Xiaogang in tandem with mid-career and emerging artists of integrity and vision.

Established in 2000, Sundaram Tagore Gallery is devoted to examining the exchange of ideas between Western and non-Western cultures. We focus on developing exhibitions and hosting not-for-profit events that engage in spiritual, social and aesthetic dialogues. In a world where communication is instant and cultures are colliding and melding as never before, our goal is to provide venues for art that transcend boundaries of all sorts. With alliances across the globe, our interest in cross-cultural exchange extends beyond the visual arts into many other disciplines, including poetry, literature, performance art, film and music.

The William Siegal Gallery in Santa Fe is a high-concept space that exhibits a distinguished collection of ancient art and artifacts alongside contemporary works of art. For more than 35 years, William Siegal has assembled the world’s largest collection of Andean textiles dating from 750 BC to the 19th century. Ceremonial objects and artifacts from Meso and South American cultures, ancient Chinese, Southeast Asian, African and Indonesian museum-quality pieces are also represented. The gallery is located in Santa Fe’s dynamic Railyard District, a major world arts destination. The stunning 5,000 square-foot gallery provides a rare opportunity to appreciate art that spans 5,000 years and many cultures, while inspiring a new collecting sensibility: the old is new and the new is old; side-by-side they create exciting dialogs.
