Our Vision
Common Street Arts will:
Provide arts education opportunitiesto all members of the Waterville areacommunity regardless of age, skill-level, or socioeconomic statusthrough year-round classes andworkshops in and beyond our newclassroom facility.
Host multi-media arts exhibits andevents in our gallery and event space,
featuring work of local, regional,national, and international artists, allof which will be open to the public atlow or no cost.
Oversee community arts initiativesincluding the downtown public artmini-grant program and collaborativemarketing of the citys arts andcultural venues.
Create a space for area artists toconverge around art-basedprofessional development topics and
to share resources.
Foster and promote ever-strongerconnections between community artsand cultural organizations, cityofficials, Colby College, ThomasCollege and KVCC, and the generalcommunity to make the arts work forWaterville as an economic driver,cultural catalyst and communitybuilder.

Be a part of the inaugural ARTworks benefit show inWatervilles new downtown art space, Common Street Arts.
As a non-juried group exhibition, ARTworks invites artists of allstripes to put their best foot forward. We hope you have heardabout and enjoyed Common Street Gallery over the last yearand will be as excited as we are to watch it grow incollaboration with many community arts partners, includingFreshwater Arts and the Colby College Museum of Art. Thecollaboration will help us move towards our vision of anexpanded and dedicated space for arts exhibition and
instruction. This project has been made possible by a CreativeCommunities = Economic Development Grant from the Maine
Arts Commission. The ARTworks benefit show will providecrucial funding necessary to bring more art to more people inWaterville and beyond through education, exhibitions andevents.
How to submit pieces for the ARTworks exhibition
ARTworks is a benefit show of 2-D artworks any size up to10x10 and in any medium that can be hung on our walls.
Artists may submit up to 4 pieces, and no more than 2 from
one artist will hang at a time. The total number hung at onetime will be dictated by the gallery space, and as worksells, new pieces will be hung to fill the void.
Please frame your submissions in wood, black or gray andprovide a hanging wire or other fixture on the back.(Artworks on panels do not need to be framed.)
All work will be priced on ten-dollar increments between$60 and $100 with 50% going to the artist and 50% goingto Common Street Arts to support future programming.(You will set the price for your piece(s) and may indicate on the submission form if you wish todonate a greater %.)
There is no fee to submit yet artists are responsible for all shipping costs.
If your work does not sell, it will be returned to you.
Artwork may be submitted Monday through Friday, June 18 through June 29 between the hours of8:00 a.m. and 2:00p.m. Since the Common Street Arts space will be under renovation, all artworkcan be mailed to or dropped off at:
