Meet the Department: Sean E. RobertsAssistant Professor of Art History

What spurred your interest in art history? Did you know it was something you always wanted

to pursue? Well, my father is a painter and printmaker, and Ive always been exposed to art at a

very early age. I was always brought to gallery openings and museums for as long as I can re-

member, it was always a part of my life. When I was thinking about what I wanted to do I really

always enjoyed wring and I always had a talent for wring. I thought about English literature

and history at rst, but I always found I had a lot to write about art.If you could go back in me and meet one of the great Renaissance masters who would it be?

Denitely Andrea Mantegna.Why? First, and foremost, because my own work is so involved in the history of printmaking and

we know so lile about the earliest prints made. Being able to observe the process of whether

he engraved them himself or whether he paid people to engrave them is one reason. Another

reason is because he was just such a favorable arst. He had a strong personality and was a total

thug who exerted a fanacal degree of art producon.Any major accomplishments? I just completed my fourth coming book called Prinng a Mediter-

ranean Worldhopefully forth coming next year.
