Art after School is an exhibition showing multimedia artworks by students from the Baltimore Lab School Monday aftercare art workshops. Aftercare art workshops help students to develop their art skills and broaden their artistic vision. First begun in April 2013, Art after School includes six different projects that are the result of weekly art workshops. Based on student interests, the theme of each workshop was unique. Workshops included: postcards, holiday cards, one-paper books, paper flowers, brochures, and a curatorial exercise.
Art after School aims to help students share their stories, exchange ideas, and express themselves in an exhibition format. Hopefully, students will apply what they learned in aftercare art workshops to their academic studies and their daily lives.

Qianfei Wang’s af terschool ar ts workshops were very
valuable for our students. Each week they looked forward
to her coming to find out what the project for the day would
be. They were able to make books, postcards, greeting
cards, and learned a little bit about curating an exhibition.
The arts are extremely important for our students because it
is where a lot of their strengths lie, so having this additional
opportunity is a great addition to the school day. Wang is
a very patient and enthusiastic teacher who is able to help
each student create a piece of art that reflects his or her
interest, and is flexible when students have new ideas. It
would be great if we could continue this program in the
same format next year.
