1. Art 21 project By- Farah Ali 2. By- Maya Lin Avalanche 1997 Tempered glass, water and wood. 10 x 19 x 21 feet Photo by Jackson SmithMaya Lin is famous for making life size art. She is very much involved in the environment. She also likes to create individual spaces by being inspired with the landscape. She likes to work as an artist and an architecture. Maya Lins art work is very similar to Andy Goldsworthy, where he creates things from nature and in natural settings, but unlike most of his work, Maya Lins works are permanent. 3. By- Farah Ali Snow storm 1/25/14 Print size variableMy picture is similar to Maya Lins as this also displays the natural phenomena and its effect. The color of the snow reflects the color of the avalanche from Maya lins art work. Moreover, the water theme in both the pictures is the basic and most important similarity. Also, this picture is life size and three dimensional just like hers. Furthermore, like Maya lins work, this photograph displays the pattern of the waves as well. 4. By- Raymond Pettibon The bright flatness 2003 water color on paper 39 x 38 inch I found this picture in the chapter 21. I think this picture is similar to the previous art slides as they are themed around water, natural phenomena, and landscape. Also, Maya Lin likes to present depth in her art work as the form of waves in the landscapes and what can be better than the picture of waves itself when finding the same patterns and similarities. We can also see the similarity of the color patterns in each pictures. As with the life-size style art of Maya lin, the man represents the perfect scale and making the waves look life-size. 5. By- Shazia Sikander Writing the Written 2000 vegetable color, dry pigment, water color, tea and a special paper. 8 x 5 1/2 inches I am mesmerized by Shazia Sikanders art style and her concepts. This Picture really represents the spirituality. Sikanders art work is based upon her positive child hood experiences and are very similar to Kara walkers narrative and William Kent ridge's animation style. The Arabic text represent the form of worshipping where the worshippers are in the zone of ecstasy in this painting. It usually takes her years to create a painting like this since she colors over and over by creating depth in the paintings. 6. By- Farah Ali Five Prayers 1/25/14 Print size variable In this picture one can feel the spirituality just like in the painting of Sikander. Worshipper is praying and being unaware of his/her surrounding by going into the state of spirituality. One can also notice the interconnection of two religions just like Sikander displays in her art works. We can see the worshipper pose is very similar to the pose of yoga, but in reality, here, one of the five prayers of Muslims is being performed. 7. Artist- not given Tile mosaic mihrab From Madrasa Imami Isfahaan, Persia (Iran) fourteenth century 1354 restored Composite bidy, glazed, sawed to shape and assembled 11 ft. 3 in 7 ft 6 in. byThis picture is from chapter 18 in our textbook, and has the same theme as my previous 2 slides. This Mihrab reminds one about worshipping and spirituality. Also, the verses of Quran are written here just like in the art work of Sikander represented them, whereas, in my photograph it was being recited by the worshipper, and we can see it easily that the same concept is represented in all three pictures here. 8. By- Andrea Zittel Various A-Z Six Month Seasonal Uniforms 1992-1995 Various fabrics, leather straps, and suspenders. dimensions variable Installed at Diechtorhallen, Hamburg, Germany Photo by- Jens Rathman Andrea Zittel is one of my favorite artist on minimalism. Through her art works, she is giving the message of not to run after the new fashions and designs and if you do not wear the latest trend and designer brands it should not matter. What matters is how these trends are making us materialistic and making us loose our real focus by not letting us see the most important things that life has to offer. Shirin Nishats work can be related to Zittels work as she is giving the same message as Zittel. To be liberated one does not have to look and act like the way media is portraying. Nishat is also telling through her paintings the same concept. Moreover, we can notice the three dimensional aspects of most of Zittels work where one can experience the whole setup. 9. By- Farah Ali Hijab 1/25/14 Print size variableThis Islamic outfit represents the same concept as Andrea Zittels. Once a women learns to dress like this, she has broken the societal pressures of designs and consumption while liberating herself. The continuation in routine instead of breaking it is better as Zittel quoted and wearing the same outfit everyday is better according to her. The Hijab in Islam also reflects the same idea. The person in the picture is wearing the hijab and observes the similar values as Zittels by not being a consumer even though she is surrounded by the market place. 10. By- Casper David Freidrich Monk by the sea 1809-10 Oil on Canvas 42 x 67 inchI chose this picture from chapter 20 as this painting represents the isolation and the darkness of the art works of Andrea Zittel where by adopting her ideas one will feel like they have isolated themselves from society, but at the same time, society isolates them too because of their lack of assimilation factors.
