Around the Room (Part 1) Around the classroom we had various posters and centers that were student oriented in a way that promoted responsibility and helped them with strategies for some of our subjects. These are pictures and names that go with five of the reading strategies that we used in our classroom. To start the year we would introduce the strategy and work through them together. The class favorite was “stretchy snake” and we used it everyday, and sometimes several times a day.

On one wall in our classroom, was our “Word Wall”. This wall was used to display our sight words for the students to reference when they were writing. This word curtain was used for students to physically sort information (in this case “services” vs. “goods”) so that students can see how they are different. Behind this word curtain we also have a desk so that at times students can work there hidden from other students and the distractions that they may provide.
