Closed-loop Ceiling Recycling Program

Armstrong was the first manufacturer

to offer a closed-loop ceiling recycling

program in the industry.

Together, with our customers, we’ve

saved over 550,000 tons of virgin

material and diverted over 77,500 tons of

ceilings from landfills. Those old ceiling

panels are recycled to manufacture our

Ceiling-2-Ceiling™ panels contain 15% or

greater post consumer recycled content.

CASE STUDY:Challenge:MORGAN STANLEY approached CBRE in NYC to assist in adding value to two major NYC projects (1585 Broadway and One New York Place). They wanted to create a building standard for acoustical ceilings that could be used on these projects and potentially for additional Morgan Stanley jobs in the city. Given this was their first FUSION project, proving the savings was extremely important along with demonstrating the less tangible benefits of the program.

Solutions:■ Developed new design and capabilities for technical zone

panels to meet the design intent on the job■ Provided market advantaged pricing via the bid process■ Improved lead times for critical-to-schedule items■ Committed to fixed pricing for duration of project vs.

1-year pricing

Results:Armstrong worked with both Morgan Stanley and CBRE very closely to understand the objectives and provided tangible savings over the life of the project that will include:■ Savings

– Mock-up – $10K – Estmated material cost – $104K

■ Improved lead time – from 8 weeks to 4 weeks■ Innovation – Developed new product to meet aesthetic

and functional requirements of the space

ARMSTRONG FACTS:■ Armstrong World Industries is a global

leader in the design and manufacture of ceilings, walls and suspension systems.

■ Armstrong operates 13 Ceiling Plants in 7 countries (USA, Austria, China, England, France, Germany, Canada)

all glass entrance systems

Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope™ entrance systems can

employ swinging or sliding doors, as well as stacking

or bifold panels. Many variations are available with

Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope™ tempered glass entry

doors. They can be used with corner patches only, with

continuous rails only, or in combinations of the two,

which allow for several possibilities.

Our All-Glass entrance systems grace some of North America’s

most prominent buildings. They are also designed to provide clean,

unobtrusive lines and are available in many configurations and

finishes to complement virtually any surrounding surface. Entrances

can be incorporated into our structural glass systems using patch

fittings to assemble side lites, transoms and stabilizer supports,

or as part of our exclusive Stackwall® system.

It gives generic information and should be considered a reference tool only. Contact Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope® for product application assistance and specifications specific to the project. All specifications subject to change without notice.

SECTION 08 42 10

ALL GLASS ENTRANCES AND STOREFRONTS

PART 1 GENERAL SUMMARY Work included: furnish all necessary materials, labor and equipment for the complete installation of tempered glass swing doors, as shown on drawings and specified herein. Work not included: structural support, interior closures, trim. QUALITY ASSURANCE Drawings and specifications are based upon door style as manufactured by Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope®. Whenever substitutes are to be considered, supporting technical literature, samples, drawings and performance data must be submitted ten days prior to making the bid in order to make a valid comparison of the product involved. PART 2 PRODUCTS Rails Top and bottom rails will be selected from the options provided in this section. Rail sections will be of extruded aluminum of 6063-T5 alloy and temper and dry-glazed. Dry-glazed rail may be a pressure assembly utilizing a fitted EPDM gasket, or mechanical rail assemblies utilizing torqued fasteners and gaskets to affix glass to the rail. Dry-glazed rails use precision-fit end caps in the finish to match the rail. Glass Glass will be (one of the following):

• 3/8" or 1/2" thick, fully tempered, clear, gray, bronze, or low iron. • 3/4" thick, fully tempered, clear.

Page 18: ARMSTRONG GLOBAL VISION - s3.amazonaws.com · ARMSTRONG GLOBAL VISION: Provide innovative solutions for interior commercial building spaces throughout the world that inspire and benefit

Glass will conform to requirements set forth by ASTM Specifications C1036 and C1048 for fabrication and tempering. All exposed edges will be flat-polished to a reflective appearance similar to the glass surface. Finishes All exposed surfaces will be free of scratches and other serious blemishes. Rail finishes will be (Select one of the following):

• For extruded aluminum, an Architectural Class II clear anodic coating conforming with Aluminum Association standards. • An Architectural Class I color anodic coating, conforming with Aluminum Association standards. Color: black. • An Architectural Class I color anodic coating, conforming with Aluminum Association standards. Color: dark bronze. • A fluoropolymer paint coating conforming with the requirements of AAMA605.2. Color will be (Specify): • Stainless Steel clad using an alloy 304 finished as follows (specify one): polished or satin. • Brass/Bronze clad finished (samples required) as follows (specify one): polished or satin.

Hardware Hardware for tempered glass swing doors will be furnished by the glass door supplier. Hardware will be the glass manufacturer’s standard as follows: 1. Handles: 2. Pivots: 3. Door Closers: 4. Locking Hardware: 5. Exit Devices: For all above, specify manufacturer, model, style, type, finish, etc. as appropriate. To ensure single-source responsibility and timely coordination, Oldcastle recommends the use of hardware offerings in this section. The hardware has been selected on proven performance. Custom hardware provided outside the scope of this product line will be provided as required but will extend the manufacturing lead times. For custom hardware applications, call 1-866-653-2278 or log on to www.oldcastleglass.com. If lock cylinders for doors are to be master-keyed, it is suggested that cylinders be included under the “Finish Hardware” section of specifications. Editing notes – All Glass Swing Doors

Hardware Schedule references may be needed. Coordination of the selected hardware with All

Glass doors is needed to confirm that the specified hardware is compatible with the All-Glass door selected. Type P Glass doors can accommodate most closers including automatic and power assisted closers. This type can also most readily accommodate electric and magnetic locks. Exit devices for all glass doors are limited to the mechanical Blumcraft H -100 and H-110 Panic series or the electronic CHMI “Smart-Touch” series.

Door Styles Type P: Continuous horizontal top and bottom rails Type BP: Continuous horizontal bottom rail with top corner fitting on pivot side. Type A: Corner fittings top and bottom on the pivot corners. (No locks available)

Type F: Corner fittings top and bottom on the pivot corners plus a lock fitting on active side of the door. Usually on the bottom near or at the corner, but can be on the jamb locking into the doorjamb or a strike housing mounted on a sidelight.

Patch fittings can be the European Style (2" x 6") or a rail patches 3 5/8" x 9", 12", or 14" inches

long. Patch fittings are extruded aluminum or cast aluminum with stainless steel inserts. Patch fittings may be clad or have covers to match the specified finish. MAINTENANCE. Closer maintenance is usually routine and is covered in the closer manufacturer’s instructions.

A special caution must be observed if the specified hardware finish is Brass, Bronze or other Copper alloy. Since all of these alloys contain copper, they will oxidize (tarnish) in time due to moisture and other chemicals present in the air. A regular maintenance schedule of cleaning with an off-the-shelf brass or metal cleaner will easily return the metal to its natural appearance. If left too long a professional metal restoration company may be required to return the finish to its original appearance. Protective lacquers can be specified, but these coatings are only temporary and are susceptible to scratching in heavy traffic areas and may need to be refinished frequently. Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope® does not offer a lacquered finish. METAL FINISHES. Aluminum Finishes. All Aluminum extrusion finishes listed by the Aluminum Association Designation System for Aluminum Finishes are available for aluminum door rails and patch fitting covers. The most popular, and therefore the most available finishes for aluminum rails, are 204 R1 (US 26) and 313 R1 (Dark Bronze Anodized). Clad Finishes.
