Jeep® enters the armoured utility vehicle segment with the all new heavy duty Jeep J8, setting new class leading standards in vehicle payload, engine power, mobility, durability and armour protection.
Starting with the legendary Jeep Wrangler, a special team of Jeep engineers created the toughest and most capable Jeep ever built for the world’s most demanding customers. This has proven to be the ideal platform for an armour protected vehicle serving in the most demanding environments.
Extensive testing has been carried out on the Jeep J8 vehicle platform using a gruelling off-road duty cycle at the famed National Automotive Testing Centre (NATC) in Nevada, USA.
The Jeep J8 has now been equipped with a ground-breaking and unique hot formed armour system, having been extensively tested by Beschussamt Mellrichstadt in Germany against a variety of ballistic and blast threats in line with the latest and most stringent international testing protocols.
The Armoured J8 features:
• Certified VPAM BRV 2009 VR7 ballistic protection and ERV 2010 blast protection.
• Powerful turbo diesel engine with automatic gearbox providing class leading power, torque and mobility.
• Regulated or unregulated emissions and homologation as required.

The Jeep® J8 base vehicle offers an impressive, unrivalled automotive specification. This includes a militarised chassis, wide track, significant payload, powerful engine and enhanced brakes, all of which are the building blocks of an effective armoured vehicle.

hot-formed Armour System
Hot-Forming is an innovative vehicle armouring system developed for the Jeep which delivers significant benefits to the user of the vehicle. The original vehicle body is replaced with a replica which is formed from steel armour and has the exact appearance of the original. The Jeep J8 is the first fully productionised, OEM warrantied, armoured vehicle of its type in the world.
This armour system delivers ballistic and blast protection levels to the most stringent industry standards with the following key benefits to the customer as compared to the conventional armour systems which are installed in the original vehicle bodies:
• Removal of the original vehicle body combined with efficiencies in the armour system reduce total vehicle mass by over 400 kg when compared to conventional armouring processes.
• Armour components are reduced in number by half to significantly increase structural integrity of the armour system.
• The armoured doors are hinged directly onto the armoured body which eradicates in-service door durability issues.
• Glazings (with the exception of the front screen) are flat block type, resulting in lower acquisition and replacement costs.
• Productionised manufacturing reduces delivery times and acquisition costs.
• Enhanced armour levels available with minimal penalty for weight and cost.
• Low profile with almost completely original external appearance.
• Jeep warranty as standard.

Armour Certification and Testing
The Armoured Jeep J8 has been subjected to the most stringent independent testing and certification undertaken by Beschussamt Mellrichstadt in Germany.
A complete Armoured Jeep J8 was provided to the testing house engineers who scrutinised the armour system design and manufacturing process as well as the completed vehicle. The live fire ballistic and blast testing is undertaken to validate armour design integrity with the objective of successful certification.
During this 5 day certification process the Jeep J8 withstood over 400 7.621x1511mm and 5.561x1451mm rounds which were concentrated on key areas around door apertures and welded components.
In addition, blast testing was also conducted with anti-personnel grenades detonated on the roof and underneath the vehicle as well as a significant side blast.
Certification for the Armoured Jeep J8 was subsequently granted by Beschussamt Mellrichstadt for the following protection:
Ballistic protection: VPAM BRV 2009 / VR7
• 7.62 x 51 FJ/PB/SC (830+/- 10 m/s)
• 5.56 x 45 FJ/PB/SCP (950+/- 10 m/s)
Blast protection: VPAM ERV 2010
• Floor - 1 x M67 / HG85 to floor (front and rear tested)
• Roof - 1 x DM51 to roof
• Side - 12.5 kg PETN @ 4 metres

Warranty
The Armoured Jeep J8 has the full support of the Jeep engineering team and comes with a factory warranty that is valid worldwide with full terms and conditions upon request.
The armour system comes with a 5 year / 100,000 km anti-perforation and structural warranty; the glazings come with a 2 year delamination and cracking warranty.
Service Support
The vehicle can be serviced at official Jeep service centres or approved Jeep J8 service partner workshops which are present in the most prevalent operating theatres.
A service parts pack is supplied with each vehicle to ensure a smooth introduction into service.
