WHAT IS REMEMBRANCE DAY ?
It's a special day to remember the people who have suffered and died in wars.
In England on November 11th, it's Armistice Day or Poppy Day.
A POPPY TO REMEMBER THE WAR
During the first World War (1914/1918 ), soldiers survived in trenches. They were tired, cold, hungry and scared. Millions died on battlefields in Europe .
WOMEN DURING THE WAR
Women helped during the war : they were nurses.
WHY POPPY DAY ?After a battle in the Flanders , in the North of France and in Belgium, soldiers saw their trenches covered in red poppies.
A POEM FOR POPPY DAY A Canadian doctor, John McCrae wrote a poem on the poppies he saw in Flanders fields. Poppies are bright red flowers which grow and die rapidly so they symbolize all the young soldiers who died in this war.
THE END OF WORLD WAR 1 THE FIRST WORLD WAR ENDED AT 11 O'CLOCK ( 11 A.M) ON THE 11TH DAY OF THE 11TH MONTH OF THE YEAR ! THERE WERE STREET PROCESSIONS AND PARTIES IN ENGLAND.

British people make or buy fake poppies to decorate war memorials and monuments with them on November 11th.

There is a ceremony with Queen Elisabeth II and the royal family to commemorate the armistice of the first world war. People stay silent for two minutes to remember .
