Welcome to the Arkansas Valley Electric family Kristin Hurt.

This year, for the first time, the Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas’ Energy Efficiency Makeover Contest will focus on manufactured homes. That’s because technological advancements of key energy efficiency retrofit components and measures now make it feasible and economical to do an energy efficiency makeover on manufactured homes. And, with 15 percent of Arkansans residing in manufactured homes, we believe the time is right for the Manufactured Home Edition of the contest.

The 2014 contest marks the seventh year of the successful energy efficiency education program. While only one member wins the overall contest, which includes energy efficiency improvements valued at up to $50,000, all members are able to learn about energy efficiency and methods to help them live more comfortably, while reducing their energy bills.

During the next few weeks, the 2014 Energy Efficiency Makeover Contest, Manufactured Home Edition, will be promoted via social media channels and Arkansas Living magazine. Applications can be obtained at www.smartenergytips.org or by visiting a local electric cooperative office. Starting in June, the applications will also be available within this magazine.

The Committee on Nominations, heretofore appointed by the Board of Directors of Arkansas Valley Electric Cooperative, submits the following report:

The Committee met at the office of the Cooperative at 11:00 o’clock a.m., on the 8th of April, 2014 with nine members present. The Committee selected Sherman Taylor as Chairman and Bobby Bond as Secretary. Larhonda Melton, Executive Secretary, kept the minutes of the meeting and Lonnie Turner, Project Attorney, explained the purpose of the meeting and the Bylaws governing the action of the Committee. He announced that four (4) Directors for three year terms were to be elected at the Annual Meeting of the Members and it was their responsibility to nominate candidates for the position of Director.

After discussion and nominations, the following named members of the Cooperative were selected as nominees for Directors to be voted on at the meeting of the members to be held in Ozark, Arkansas on the 20th of June, 2014.

Nominated for three year terms were: Sam Davis – Johnson County; BeLinda Efurd – Crawford County; Phillip King – Sebastian County; and, Sean Holland – Sebastian County.

Members to receive capital credit noticesBy the time you read this, you may have already received your 2013 Capital Credit Notice. Beginning this year, the notice was printed on the Arkansas Valley Electric Cooperative electric bills mailed

in April. Everyone who was a member of and purchased power from AVECC in 2013 was sent a notice of patronage allocation.

Please note that this is only a notice informing you of the Cooperative’s margins (profits) for 2013 allocated to your patronage capital account. This is not a refund and it cannot be used to

pay your monthly electric bill.Arkansas Valley Electric Cooperative is a not-for-profit corporation, meaning there are no

stockholders receiving dividends. Each year, the profits, or margins, are calculated and allocated back to the members based on the dollar amount of electricity purchased during the year.

These capital credits are not refunded immediately. They are used as working capital to maintain electric lines, transformers and other equipment needed to provide reliable electric service. Part of these funds is used to

build new facilities and upgrade existing facilities to maintain quality power delivery. By using these patronage capital funds, the Cooperative reduces the amount of borrowed funds required to build and maintain the electric system.

The decision to refund allocated capital credits, as well as the amount to refund, is made by your Board of Directors. The Board carefully reviews the financial condition and stability of the Cooperative, as well as other

needs of the Cooperative before making that decision. When a consumer moves and no longer receives power from the Cooperative, they are encouraged to leave a

forwarding address to receive future capital credit refunds. If the Cooperative doesn’t receive a forwarding address of a former member, their capital credit refund cannot be sent. Please contact our Ozark Headquarters at (800) 468-2176 to provide a current address if your mailing address has changed.
