FACILITIES: Media facilities in the Con-vocation Center consist of an area atfloor level on the east side of the courtfor reporters, broadcasters and photog-raphers, as well as a television-filmbooth located high on the east side ofthe arena. There is also a Media Roomlocated on the west side open to thepress before, during and after games.Admittance to these areas is by specialcredential issued only by the ASUSports Information Office.

CREDENTIALS: Credentials for homegames are provided to those membersof the media who are covering the gamein a full working capacity. Re quests withnames should be sub mit ted in writing oncom pa ny let ter head. Passes will bemailed to valid applicants as long astime permits; otherwise, passes may beclaimed at the Media Entrance on theeast side of the arena. Spouses, dates,children and non-workers are NOT per-mitted in the media areas. Passes mustbe displayed at all times, and ASU re-serves the right to revoke passes andprivileges at any time due to misrepre-sentation or misconduct. Requests forroad-game credentials should be madeto the SID of the host institution.

PARKING: A limited number of parkingspaces are available to members of themedia on a paved lot adjacent to theMedia Entrance on the east side of thearena, Lot “A”. Display a parking pass tothe parking attendant for admittance.Parking is on a first-come, first-servebasis. All parking pass requests shouldbe made to the Sports Information Of-fice.

ENTRy: Media representatives withproper ASU-issued credentials will beallowed to enter the building ONLY atthe Media Entrance (ground level, greencorner of the arena) on the east side ofthe Convocation Center. This is also themain entry to the athletic offices and isadjacent to the Media parking area.

GAmE SERVICES: Notes, programs,media guides and statistic packets areprovided to media personnel by theMedia Relations Office. Phones areavailable in the Media Room as well aslight refreshments.

PHOTOGRAPHERS: The arena light-ing system is a combination of 1,000-watt and 1,500-watt metal halide lampswith a 150-footcandle level of illumina-tion. Excellent results have been ob-tained with daylight film. Photographersare not allowed to shoot from in front ofthe team benches nor from the catwalk

above the floor (for security, insuranceand safety reasons). Credentials are re-quired to shoot from courtside. Certifiedphotographers of newspapers, maga-zines, wire services and TV stationsmust request passes in writing. No cre-dentials will be issued to freelance pho-tographers.

INTERVIEWS: The head coach will beavailable for interviews in the mediaroom after each game, following a briefteam meeting. ASU student-athletes willalso be available by request at this time.The locker room is closed to the mediafollowing games. To arrange for a stu-dent-athlete interview during the week,contact Dennen Cuthbertson at (870)972-2541. All interviews must be ap-proved by the head coach.

INJURy INFORmATION POLICy: Astudent-athlete's protected health infor-mation is protected by federal regula-tions under either the Health InformationPortability and Accountability Act(HIPAA) or the Family EducationalRights and Privacy Act of 1974 (theBuckley Amendment) and may not bedisclosed without either the student-ath-lete's authorization under HIPAA or theirconsent under the Buckley Amendment.Authorized/consented injury informationpertaining to a student-athlete shall bereleased to the media through the De-partment of Athletics Media Relationsoffice after being authorized by the ath-letic trainer. It is also appropriate-in post-game or weekly press conferences-forhead coaches to announce team injuryupdates. It is the policy of the Depart-ment of Athletics to provide accurate in-formation on injuries and not withholdinjury information from the media. Teamphysicians may be available to offer ex-planation on injuries if requested by theathletic trainer. Any sideline or lockerroom report made to the media shall bemade by an athletic trainer, team physi-cian, or a media relations staff repre-sentative.

Arkansas State Volleyball2013 Season Outlook


Arkansas State will look to continue its richvolleyball history in 2013 after a successful cam-paign in 2012. The Red Wolves went 19-14 withan 8-6 mark in Sun Belt Conference play. A-State also registered its first win in the Sun BeltConference Tournament since 2000 with a 3-1win over Arkansas-Little Rock.

Head coach David Rehr looks to buildupon the success from last season, but will haveto do it with an entirely new coaching staff. Rehrhired Susie Jangada to be his assistant coach.Jangada spent the past season at JacksonvilleUniversity and has several years of coaching ex-perience at the high school and college level togo along with a successful collegiate and profes-sional playing career. Joining Jangada on thestaff will be Tessa McGill, a former volleyballplayer at Indiana University-Purdue UniversityFort Wayne.

A-State will have to replace several keycontributors from last year’s team, including first-team All-Sun Belt member Allison Kearney, whofinished her career fourth on the all-time assistslist at ASU. The Red Wolves will also have to re-

place Jasmine Terry and Kelsie Hodges whowere first and second on the team in kills a yearago. The Red Wolves return six lettermen andtheir experience will be invaluable on the 2013Red Wolves as the squad welcomes 10 newcom-ers, including eight true freshmen.

LSU transfer Jackie Gerig joins the RedWolves for her senior season and figures to re-place Kearney at setter. Second-team All-SunBelt selection Megan Baska and senior ShelbyCrncic will anchor the defense. Baska is third all-time on A-State’s career digs list and her 10 SBCDefensive Player of the Week awards are themost in conference history. Additionally, Baskaand Crncic are the squad’s returning leaders inservice aces.

Senior Kelsey Sullivan was third on theteam in kills last season and will be counted on tolead the team’s front line. Junior Marie Hadarhas valuable experience as a middle blocker andoutside hitter and figures to see an increased roleon the front line along with senior Sadie Clarkand redshirt junior Taylor Szypulski.

Arkansas State VolleyballHead Coach


David RehrSecond Year • Career Record: 19-14, SBC 8-6David Rehr enters his second season as head coach of the A-State volleyballsquad and 14th season overall as a head coach. Rehr has compiled an overallrecord of 412-77 over 13 seasons as a head coach, which included stints at BlinnCollege and Frank Phillips College before being named the seventh head coachin ASU volleyball history.

In his first season as Arkansas State's head coach he led the Red Wolves to a 19-14 recored and 8-6 mark in conference play. Coach Rehr led A-State to its firstSun Belt Conference Tournament win since 2000 with a 3-1 victory over UALR inthe first round.

Prior to being named the head coach at ASU, Rehr spent nine seasons at Blinn College in Texas. During his time at Blinnhe led the Buccaneers to two NJCAA National Championships (2008 and 2011), was a two-time NJCAA National Tourna-ment Coach of the Year, a three-time AVCA Southwest Region Coach of the Year and a nine-time NJCAA District Coachof the Year.

While at Blinn, Rehr posted a 313-35 record and led the Buccaneers to eight regional championships including six straightfrom 2003-08. He helped Blinn win its first national championship in 2008, guiding the Buccaneers to a 33-2 mark. Heagain led Blinn to a national title in 2011 with a perfect 38-0 record that ended with a four-set victory over WesternWyoming in the NJCAA National Championship match.

When he arrived at Blinn in 2003 he won his first 41 matches as head coach and led the school to their first appearance inthe NJCAA National Tournament that same year. He was inducted into the NJCAA Volleyball Coaches Hall of Fame onNov. 16, 2011.

From 2007-11 Rehr served as Blinn’s Director of Athletics and helped guide to the school to success in other sports. In2009 the Buccaneer football team won the NJCAA National Championship, the fourth in the program’s history. The squadwas led by eventual 2010 Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton.

“I am very excited to be joining the Arkansas State family,” Rehr said. “It is with a heavy heart that I leave Blinn after help-ing put them on the map, but I am excited to come to Jonesboro and continue to build on the great success the ArkansasState volleyball program has had in the past.”

Prior to coaching at Blinn College, Rehr coached for three seasons at Frank Phillips College in Texas, where he amassedan 80-28 record. In 2002 he led the squad to the regional championship and an NJCAA tournament appearance. TheLady Plainsmen won the Western Junior College Athletic Conference title in 2001 and 2002, going undefeated in confer-ence play both seasons. Rehr was named the WJCAC Volleyball Coach of the year both seasons, as well as winning theDistrict C Volleyball Coach of the Year award in 2002.

During his career, Rehr has helped lead teams to 10 conference championships, 10 NJCAA regional championships andnine NJCAA tournament appearances. He has coached 14 NJCAA All-Americans, 11 AVCA All-Americans, 10 NJCAA Ac-ademic All-Americans, 55 all-region players and 46 all-conference players.

A native of Tampa, Fla., Rehr attended Brevard Community College in Melbourne, Fla., where he was a student assistantwith the volleyball program. He earned both his Bachelors of Science in Wellness and Masters of Arts in Physical Educa-tion from the University of South Florida in Tampa.

He and his wife, Felicia, were married in 2005, and they have one son Noah (3).

Susie JangadaSusie Jangada was named assistant coach at ASU in February of 2013.

Jangada was at Jacksonville University last season. She came to Jacksonville following atwo-year coaching stint at Bluffton-Harrison High School in Indiana.

Prior to Bluffton, she coached at Houston Baptist University and helped it to a 26-3 recordduring the 2007-08 year. The Huskies ended the season winning 18 of their final 19 matches.

Jangada began her collegiate coaching career at Centenary College of Louisiana during the2006-2007 campaign. She has also spent time serving as a volleyball camp instructor at Uni-versity of Florida, Florida Southern College, the University of Tampa, and Ball State.

At the club level, Jangada has coached Decatur Force Volleyball Club (2010-2012) during hertime at Bluffton. She coached in France for the Stade Francais Club (2004-2005) in Paris and Istres Sport Volleyball Club (2003-04). She also coached the 11-12 year olds and beginners at the Munciana Volleyball Club in 2000.

After playing a season at Indiana State, Jangada transferred to Ball State was a key member of the two Cardinal runs to the NCAATournament. She earned Mid-American all-conference and all-tournament accolades during the 1999 and 2000 seasons. Jangadais ranked third all-time in hitting percentage with a .358 average.

Following her Cardinals career, she was an expansion pick in 2003 for the United States Professional Volleyball team. She laterplayed in Holland in 2003. She also played in Istres, France in 2003-2004 and in Paris from 2004-2005.

Jangada graduated from Ball State in 2002 with a bachelor's degree in exercise science and wellness. Susie and her husband,Wenderson; have a daughter, Liriana; and a son, Ferguson. Wenderson is a native of Brazil, a former professional boxer, andserved in the 82nd Airborne in the Army.

Tessa McGill is entering her first season as an assistant coach on the Arkansas Statevolleyball staff.

McGill comes to ASU after earning her bachelor’s degree in business management witha minor in communications from Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne.While at IPFW, she was a four-year letterman on the Mastodon volleyball team.

McGill was part of two NCAA Tournament teams at IPFW including her senior season in2012. She earned a number of accolades during her final year including IPFW SeniorFemale Athlete of the Year, Summit League Defensive Player of the Year, All-SummitLeague Team, Summit League All-Tournament Team, American Volleyball Coaches As-sociation D1 Honorable Mention Selection in the Central Region, and Summit LeagueDefensive Player of the Week three times.

During her playing career, McGill registered 2,324 digs and averaged 4.77 digs per set,making her the Mastodons’ all-time career leader in both categories. She also ownsrecords at IPFW for most digs in a three-set match with 28 and most digs in a five-setmatch with 47. In addition to her IPFW records, she ranked 19th in the nation with 5.44digs per set in 2011, ranked sixth in the nation with 6.09 digs per set in 2012, and led theSummit League in digs for 2012. She is second all-time in Summit League DefensivePlayer of the Week awards with eight for her career.

The Arkansas State volleyball squad finished the2012 season with a 19-14 record and an 8-6record in Sun Belt Conference matches.Arkansas State finished third in the SBC West Di-vision and was the fifth seed in the SBC confer-ence tournament. The Red Wolves squared offagainst fourth-seeded Arkansas-Little Rock anddefeated the Trojans 3-1 to advance the semifi-nals. The win over UALR was the first win in theconference tournament for an Arkansas Statevolleyball team since 2000. A-State had to takeon the 17th ranked and first seed Western Ken-tucky in the semifinals, but the Red Wolves fell tothe Hilltoppers 3-0 to end the season.

A-State claimed two postseason league awards,as well as three SBC Player of the Week honorsthroughout the season. Senior setter AllisonKearney earned first-team All-SBC honors, whilejunior libero Megan Baska garnered a second-team All-SBC selection. Baska won the SBC De-fensive Player of the Week award twice duringthe season to give her 10 for her career, which isthe most in Sun Belt Conference history, whileJasmine Terry won one Sun Belt Conference

Player of the Week award.

The Red Wolves went 5-2 at home on the seasonby compiling a 3-1 record at the ConvocationCenter and a 2-1 record at the HPESS. ASUcompeted in four non-conference tournaments,with their best showing coming in the McNeeseState Tournament when the Red Wolves went 3-1. A-State played Memphis for the first timesince 2009 and swept the Tigers 3-0 at the Con-vocation Center. The Red Wolves had a season-long four-match winning streak from Sept. 30 toOct. 7 by defeating conference opponentsLouisiana-Monroe, Troy, and South Alabama athome along with a road match at Southeast Mis-souri.Kearney finished her career with 3,344 assists toput her fourth all-time in ASU history, while Baskamoved into third all-time on A-State’s career digslist with 1,567 digs. Baska’s 507 digs ranked asthe ninth most digs in a single season in A-Statehistory. Kearney also found her way onto an ASUsingle-season record list by registering 1,305 as-sists in 2012, good enough for eighth place all-time.

Arkansas State VolleyballRed Wolves’ Home Courts


The Arkansas State Volleyball program has racked up238 vic to ries at the Con vo ca tion Cen ter in the 24 sea sonsit has played in the are na. ASU has an amazing 238-65record (.785) in the build ing since its open ing in 1987. How-ever, the Red Wolves have found a second home in thenewly remodeld Health, Physical Education and Sport Sci-ence (HPESS) facility on campus. The facility was origi-nally rennovated to serve as a practice facility for theA-State men’s and women’s basketball teams, but its sizeand setup proved to be the perfect volleyball environment.Arkansas State began play in the HPESS in 2010, startingthe new home court off with a 5-2 (.714) record.

The team has had un de feat ed home records in fiveseasons, in clud ing 2004, when the team was 14-0 at theConvocation Center. The building was built in 1987 at a costof $19 mil lion and paid for pri ma ri ly by the state of Arkansas.The 10,563-seat multi-pur pose fa cil i ty has earned its ti tleas the “Show place of North east Ar kan sas” over the past 15years.

The Convocation Cen ter is not only home to the RedWolves vol ley ball pro gram, but also the Ar kan sas Statemen’s and wom en’s bas ket ball pro grams and the in doorhome of the A-State track and field pro gram.

Beginning in 1990, the Con vo ca tion Cen ter played hostto sev en straight con fer ence post-sea son tour na ments, in- clud ing six straight Sun Belt Con fer ence Vol ley ball Cham- pi on ships. In 1997, for the first time since ASU joined theSun Belt Con fer ence, the league's post-sea son tour na mentwas held in a place oth er than Jonesboro.

ASU won five of those seven con fer ence tournamentsit hosted, go ing 21-4 in tour na ment ac tion at the Con vo ca- tion Cen ter.

Arkansas State has had crowds of over 1,000 for a volley ball match eight times, including a record 4,140 for amatch against the University of Mem phis on Nov. 25, 1995,that was part of a men's bas ket ball/vol ley ball doubleheader.

ASU went un de feat ed in home match es in back-to-backseasons in 1988 (15-0) and 1989 (12-0) and won its firstthree home matches of the 1990 season to post a 28-matchhome winning streak the longest in program history. ASUhas gone through a season with just one home loss fivetimes, including two years ago in 2009. The oth er four camein 1994 (11-1), 1995 (15-1), 1999 (14-1) and 2003 (11-1).

Not only does the Convocation Cen ter play host toArkansas State ath let ic home events, the build ing also at-tracts peo ple from all over North east Ar kan sas and the Mid-South region for a va ri ety of other events—from concerts tocon ven tions, area busi ness ex po si tions and con fer enc es,ban quets and uni ver si ty and high school com mence mentsas well.

Formed in 1976 the Sun Belt Conference quickly rose tothe greatest heights of collegiate athletics and the leaguecontinues to find itself at thepinnacle of competition as a member of the 10-league al-liance of the Bowl Championship Series and soon-to-beCollege Football Playo�.

Because of its status as a member of the Football BowlSubdivision, the Sun Belt Conference has a permanentseat on the NCAA’s 18-member Board of Directors. As aresult, the conference has a crucial voice on some of themost pressing issues in college athletics and will alwayshave a role in the implementation of any future NCAA leg-islation and guidelines.

The conference continues to utilize television to grow andpromote the league and its member institutions. The SunBelt Conference signed a new multi-year agreement withESPN, Inc. in 2012 that results in unprecedented nationalcoverage for the league. Fans of the Sun Belt Conferencecan look forward to seeing more Sun Belt teams playingon national television on ESPN and ESPN2 and addition-ally the ESPN deal will result in more coverage onESPNU. ESPN will continue to televise the conference’smen’s basketball championship game for the 32ndstraight season in 2013, marking its longest a�liation withany conference in the country.

The conference’s regional television partnership withComcast/Charter Sports Southeast (CSS) and CoxSports Television (CST) enables live telecasts of Sun Beltevents to reach millions of households. The addition ofvolleyball, baseball and softball to the conference’s televi-sion packagehas resulted in more national and regional television ex-posure for the league than at any time in its history.

Success has been easy to find in recent years as well.

Over the last five years the Sun Belt Conference rankssixth out of the 11 FBS conferences in postseason bowlgame winning percentage. In fact, the Sun Belt Confer-ence ranks ahead of noted “BCS AQ” leagues – the ACC,Pac-12 and the Big Ten.

The Sun Belt Conference maintains tie-ins with the Go-Daddy Bowl and the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl. Ateam from the Sun Belt Conference has played in the R+LCarriers New Orleans Bowl since its inception in 2001.The SBC has won four consecutive R+L Carriers New Or-leans Bowl games and six out of the last seven. The Go-Daddy bowl, meanwhile, has a four-year agreement inplace with the Sun Belt Conference and Mid-American

Conference to provide teams for the game.

Sun Belt student-athletes have a history of performingwell in the class room as well. With sights set on raisedbenchmarks, 96.2% of teams that will make up the 2013-14 Sun Belt Conference are performing above the futureAcademic Progress Rate (APR) standard of 930 as theNCAA r leased its latest figures in June. Beginning with2012-13 NCAA Championships, teams must earn a mini-mum 900 four-year APR or a 930 average over the mostrecent two years to be eligible to participate. For 2014-15championships, teams must earn a 930 four-year averageAPR or a 940 average over the most recent two years toparticipate in championships. In 2015-16 and beyond,teams must earn a four-year APR of 930 to compete inchampionships. 153 of 159 Sun Belt teams are currentlyperforming above the 930 benchmark.

Prominent Sun Belt alumni include Lyndon B. Johnson,former President of the United States (Texas State), for-mer All-Star baseball player LuisGonzalez (South Alabama), former member of the UnitedStates Senate and House of Representatives JohnBreaux (Louisiana-Lafayette), country music superstarTim McGraw (Louisiana Monroe), CEO of Duck Com-mander and Buck Commander Willie Robertson(Louisiana-Monroe) and DeMarcus Ware, an All-Pro NFLlinebacker (Troy).

The Sun Belt Conference will contest the 2013 footballseason with eight members – Arkansas State, GeorgiaState, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe, South Ala-bama, Texas State, Troy and Western Kentucky Univer-sity. UALR and UT Arlington compete as non-footballmembers. Come the 2014 season, the Sun Belt will havefour new members in the league as Appalachian Stateand Georgia Southern were added as all-sports membersand Idaho and New Mexico State have been added asfootball playing members.

Those who have not visited the campus of Arkansas StateUniversity in the last five or 10 years would be shocked atthe school’s appearance today. So much on campus is tiedto athletics. ASU Stadium is the gathering site for Saturdaysand excitement surrounding each game can be felt for miles.The sights, the smells, the sounds of football.

There is so much construction and new projects on cam-pus. The school looks . . . and is . . . a modern educationalinstitution that has kept up with technology and studentneeds as much, if not more, than most schools in the na-tion. A student center addition anchors the campus, and anew student recreation and wellness center was completedlast fall.

New campus housing has recently been completed, in-cluding a “Collegiate Park” apartment complex, coastal-typesoft-colored housing throughout campus, and a new dorm.There is a new Alumni Center and construction of a newoverpass connecting the campus to local businesses isabout to become a reality. It’s a new-look campus that isgrowing and improving each day.

Arkansas State University is an extremely valuable part ofNortheast Arkansas and surrounding areas.

Arkansas State Uni ver si ty was established April 1, 1909,as a “public school of ag ri cul ture” by Act 100 of the ArkansasGeneral As sem bly. It was located at Jonesboro be cause cit- i zens of the city bid $40,000 to the state and pledged 200acres of land as a site.

After a century of growth, ASU-Jonesboro now has an annu al bud get of some $122.6 million, owns more than 3,000acres of land in five different counties, has a phys i cal plantvalued at almost $200 million, and has an alumni roll ex-ceeding 53,000.

ASU’s rapid development over the years has been typ i calof other major universities in an emerging modern South.From an agricultural high school in 1909, to a junior col legein 1918, to a four-year degree-grant ing institution in 1930, toa university in 1967, ASU has become regionally re spect edand nationally rec og nized for its qualities of teaching, research and service.

The ASU system includes campuses at Beebe (WhiteCounty), Mountain Home (Baxter County), and Newport(Jackson County) where associate degree programs are of-fered, and at Marked Tree, Searcy and Heber Springs. Aninstructional site is located at Paragould.

The Jonesboro campus, which occupies 942 acres amidthe gentle slopes of Crowley’s Ridge in east Jonesboro, islocated between the vast and fertile Mis sis sip pi River Val-ley and the cultural and scenic richness of the Ozark Moun-tains.

More than 10,000 students annually work toward de greesin 141 areas of spe cial iza tion at the graduate and under-graduate levels. Fif teen un der grad u ate de grees are offeredthrough the Colleges of Ag ri cul ture, Busi ness, Com mu ni ca- tions, Education, Engineering, Fine Arts, Humanities andSocial Sciences, Nursing and Health Professions, Sciencesand Mathematics, and the University College. The Intercollegiate AthleticsCommittee was formed in the springof 1997.

The Intercollegiate AthleticsCommittee reviews and makes rec-ommendations on issues involving

the welfare of student-athletes, therole of athletics in campus life, and

the athletics program’s compliance with the university, con-ference, and NCAA regulations; serves as a search advi-sory committee for key athletics program personnel;reviews the role of existing and potential sports programs;and reviews the athletics budget. The committee reports tothe Chancellor.

Membership consists of four students appointed annu-ally by the Student Government Association (one should bea student-athlete); four faculty appointed by the FacultySenate (staggered two-year terms); one Faculty AthleticRepresentative appointed by the Chancellor (two-yearterm); one executive staff member appointed by the Chan-cellor (two-year term); the Dean of University College; twostaff members appointed by the Staff Senate (staggeredtwo-year terms); Student Government Association and Stu-dent Activities Board presidents; and representatives fromthe following external organizations: Alumni Association,Red Wolf Club, Letterman’s Club, and the Jonesboro Re-gional Chamber of Commerce ASU Committee. Dr. Tim Hudson took office as the secondchancellor of Arkansas State University in Jones-boro on May 1, 2012. He was appointed by Dr.Charles W. Welch, president of the ArkansasState University System, following a nationalsearch process.

Most recently Dr. Hudson was vice chan-cellor of the Texas Tech University System, afterserving as special assistant to the chancellor forInternational Programs and Initiatives at the Uni-versity of Houston System. From 2004 until 2010he was president of the University of Houston–Victoria, following a two-decade career as a pro-fessor of economic development, programdirector, founding dean of the College of Interna-tional and Continuing Education, and provost atthe University of Southern Mississippi. Earlier inhis career he was an analyst for the Bureau of In-

telligence and Research in the U.S. Departmentof State.

At Arkansas State University he leads thecampus executive team as the institution strivesfor progressive excellence in academics, re-search, fiscal management and student life.

Hudson earned a Bachelor of Arts degreein history and Latin American studies and a Mas-ter of Arts in geography from the University ofSouthern Mississippi. His PhD in geography isfrom Clark University in Worcester, Mass. Hehas written numerous scholarly works for nationaland international publications; a recent co-au-thored book focuses on multinational corporationsubsidiaries in China (Chandos, Cambridge).

During his tenure as president of the Uni-versity of Houston–Victoria, the campus experi-enced tremendous growth and developmentincluding: doubling enrollment and the number offulltime faculty; exceeding external fundraisinggoals for five consecutive years; founding a newschool of nursing and health professions, whichearned full national accreditation on its initial peti-tion; achieving AACSB International accredita-tion; and ranking first in Texas on the studentsatisfaction portion of the 2010 National Surveyof Student Engagement.

Hudson is the recipient of two FulbrightFellowships (Germany and Mexico), and an ITTInternational Fellowship to study in Colombia,South America. He also has developed and ledmore than 30 programs for U.S. students to studyabroad and was awarded an honorary doctorateby London Guildhall University for his contribu-tions to global literacy.

Hudson is married to Dr. Deidra “Dee Dee”Ransburgh Hudson, who holds a Master of Sci-ence in speech pathology from the University ofTennessee and a PhD degree in educationalleadership from the University of Southern Mis-sissippi. The Hudsons and their children, GiannaGrace, 14, and twins Daisy and Nathaniel, 10,will live in the ASU chancellor’s residence on Net-tleton Avenue in Jonesboro.

Terry Mohajir is in his first year as the Arkansas State Direc-tor of Athletics. He became the 11th Director of Athletics in A-State his-tory on September 19, 2012.

An Arkansas State University alumnus, Mohajir's (pro-nounced MO-HA-JUR) career path went through three other NCAA Di-vision I institutions, including the University of Missouri-Kansas City,Florida Atlantic and Kansas, before leading him back to his almamater.

"I'm thrilled and honored to serve as the Director of Athleticsat Arkansas State University," said Mohajir. "I'm very eager to join theuniversity leadership and help take advantage of the amazing momen-tum that has been created. As an alumnus, and former student-athlete,I'm excited to have the opportunity to guide this athletics departmenttoward making a national impact as part of this emerging university."

Mohajir's wealth of experience, history of success workingwith a university in ASU's current conference and his noted accom-plishments at a BCS automatic qualifying school made him a clearchoice to take over the reins at Arkansas State.

"Over the past month I had the pleasure of meeting and talk-ing to a number of highly qualified individuals from California to theCarolinas who were either interested in becoming the Athletic Directorat AState or were recommending someone for the job -- a clear indica-tion that we are on the radar screen nationally," ASU Chancellor Dr.Tim Hudson said. "During that time as we filtered through the input, itbecame clear that in Terry we had a unique opportunity to bring back acommitted alum with the vision, energy, experience and persona tolead Red Wolves athletics during this exciting era."

Mohajir has gained national respect in collegiate athleticswhile working with some of the finest administrators and coaches inthe country, such as former FAU, Louisville, Miami and Oklahomahead football coach Howard Schnellenberger.

"Arkansas State University is very lucky to get a talented andcreative administrator in Terry Mohajir," said Schnellenberger. "I thor-oughly enjoyed working with him. I know he will help take ArkansasState to the next level. I wish him and the program all my best."

The Overland Park, Kansas native has been involved withmajor fundraising campaigns at multiple universities, while also over-seeing corporate sales, marketing promotions and ticket sales. He

most recently served the last 13 months as Kansas' Senior AssociateDirector of Athletics and Chief Marketing Officer. Prior to his time withthe Jayhawks, he spent a seven-year stint as Florida Atlantic's SeniorAssociate Director of Athletics for External Relations from 2004-11after working at UMKC from 1997-2004 as its Assistant Director of Ath-letics for External Relations.

"I am extremely excited about Terry Mohajir leading our ath-letics department into the future," said ASU System President Dr.Chuck Welch. "While we had a significant number of highly qualifiedand experienced candidates who expressed interest in the position,Terry stood out because of his energy, enthusiasm, presence, and pas-sion for growing our programs. The fact that he has experience in theBig 12 Conference, as well as the Sun Belt Conference, provides Terrywith a very diverse background perfectly suited for our situation. Whenasked why he was interested he simply said, 'This is my alma mater,and this is the perfect time to do special things at ASU.' Terry is theperfect fit at the right time. I have never been more excited about ourfuture."

Mohajir worked at Kansas in a variety of capacities duringtwo different stints, but his latest stop in Lawrence saw him assume re-sponsibility for the Williams Education Fund that totaled over $22 mil-lion in revenue for the fiscal year 2012. He supervised the athleticsdepartment's areas that generated over $40 million in revenue. In addi-tion, Mohajir oversaw Kansas' multimedia rights partnership for IMG.His most recent role was heavily focused on the market strategies forthe proposed football stadium renovations.

"Terry's experience at KU, where the basketball program islegendary, and his obvious background in football and fundraisingmake him a terrific choice," said ASU Head Men's Basketball CoachJohn Brady. "Plus, he played here. He clearly knows A-State."

Mohajir went to Kansas from his position at Florida Atlantic,where he oversaw development, marketing, ticket sales, corporatesales and the media relations department. Foremost among his re-sponsibilities was a fundraising campaign for a $70 million on-campusfootball stadium. His astute project management helped the Owls' foot-ball program reach the 2007 New Orleans Bowl in just its fourth yearas an FBS program, an NCAA record for the fastest start-up programto go to a bowl game. During his tenure, FAU's athletics departmentenhanced its major gift program 800 percent, Owl Club giving in-creased 400 percent and special-events revenue increased 150 per-cent.

Mohajir's original connection to KU dated back to the early1990's, when he was a graduate assistant and later an assistant offen-sive line and game-day special team's football coach for the Jayhawks(1993-96). He left Kansas in 1997 but didn't go far, staying in theKansas City area to take over his administrative position with thenewly-created Division I UMKC Athletics program. There he super-vised marketing and promotions, sports information, fundraising, radioand TV contracts, corporate sales, tickets, event operations, sportsmedicine, strength and conditioning and men's soccer.

Under his leadership, the Kangaroos saw dramatic increasesin endowment, sponsorships, ticket revenue and its donor base. Oneof his more visible accomplishments at UMKC was the fundraising andconstruction efforts for a new training room and strength and condition-ing center.

During his time as an assistant coach at Kansas, Mohajirwas on the staff that beat UCLA in the 1995 Aloha Bowl and had a finalranking of No. 9 in the AP poll. He was also a football ticket sales andpromotions account executive for Kansas Athletics and earned a mas-ter's degree in sports management at KU in 1997.

Mohajir graduated from Arkansas State University with amajor in sports management and a minor in marketing in 1993. He wasa starter on ASU's football team.

Mohajir is married to the former Julie Hammond and theyhave two daughters, Maria (11) and Molly (9), and a son, Marco (4).

Arkansas State University’s athletic programs compete intop-of-the line facilities.

Liberty Bank Stadium, which opened in 1974, has evolvedinto a beautiful stadium which seats 30,406 fans. That in-cludes a cluster of exclusive suites in the south end zone atopthe football office complex. A million dollar video/scoreboardis the focal point in the stadium.

Coaches and student-athletes moved into a new $2.7 mil-lion track and field complex in spring 2004. It contains aneight-lane 400-meter track and can be set up for two NCAAvenues.

Three local country clubs graciously allow ASU’s men’s andwomen’s golf programs to utilize their facilities for practice andplay.

J.A. “Ike” Tomlinson Stadium-Kell Field serves as home toRed Wolves baseball. Built in 1993, the stadium receivedcomplete lighting in 1996 and, most recently, 206 field levelseats were added for the 2008 season.

ASU’s newest women’s program, bowling, competes in theJonesboro Bowling Center, a 40-lane state-of-the-art facility.

Jonesboro is also the medical hub of northeastArkansas and southeast missouri, with two major hospi-tals and countless medical professionals. The city is also

a shopping mecca, offering a modern business district aswell as quaint downtown antique shops and restaurants.The $100 million mall at Turtle Creek recently opened withmore than 100 stores.

One of the five largest cities in Arkansas, Jonesboro islocated between the vast and fertile mississippi River andthe cultural and scenic richness of the Ozark mountains. Itis nestled about 70 miles west of memphis, Tennessee, onthe gentle slopes of Crowley’s Ridge.

Jonesboro is a comfortable one hour drive from mem-phis, two hours from Little Rock and four hours from St.Louis.The city and University have meshed resources inrecent years and have truly become the “capital” of thenortheast quadrant of the state.

Northeast Arkansas is a recreation haven for the per-son who enjoys water sports, fishing, hunting, and boatingas well as the joys of unspoiled nature. Jonesboro and thesurrounding area have an abundance of lakes, rivers,ponds, streams and forests to serve as nature’s play-grounds for the avid outdoors person.

And, Jonesboro, ranked by Forbes.com as the 27th“best small place to live” is a nice place to call home.
