From the Chapter Directors Corner: Carol and Bob Bass You know the old saying the older we get the faster time goes by...Well with both of us having a birthday this month, I do believe the saying must be true... because here it is the end of March al-ready. This month the Chapter was busy. We started off on nine bikes and eleven people on a cold morn-ing and headed down to Chapter F Rally, in War-ren, AR. At that rally we were honored with the most members from a Chapter certificate. The following weekend, we headed off to Chapter C Rally, in Cabot, AR. Once again we started with seven bikes and one vehicle, to make eleven peo-ple, however we had on of our members develop battery problems so we dropped down to nine peo-ple. Well, Chapter E rose to the occasion again, and Al Jameson came in first place on the Chariot Races.. Way to go Al. The third weekend, was St. Patrick parade down-town Hot Springs, WOW is all I can say... we had nine bikes all decorated with a St. Paddy theme, the thirteen members looked pretty good them-selves. Dan Gruben will need to be careful on what he eats, his bead turned green. Then we headed down to Marshall, Texas. We had 15 members of Chapter E go to the Region H rally. I know for sure that the vendors were happy with Chapter E, since a lot of us came home with more then we went down with. Once again Chap-ter E rose to the occasion, we took second place in the Chapter T-Shirts, second place with our mas-cot "Eddie the Eagle", and Steve Johnson came in First place at the talent show. Well we saved the best for last... We had our

Chapter Rally March 31. Bob and I want to

thank all of you for your help and support to

make this rally a success. We want to thank

John's Honda for all of their help, Kay Craft

for donating the gift card from Wal-Mart and

Page 2 Volume 1 , Issue 4

Bart Messina for the gorgeous Eagle Head, as

door prizes, I really didn't want to turn the Eagle

over however Chapter X from Clarksville had

the most member there and took the Eagle home

with them. We had a great turn out, at the last

count we had over 100 folks show up on a very

wet day. Thanks to our Chapter and to the

Chapters that travel the long distance to support

us. Once again thank you to all of the members and friends. April is going to be another busy month: April 12-14 Louisiana District Rally ( Lafayette, LA) April 20-22 rider Education Weekend in Morrilton If you are not able to go to Morrilton, The Spring Riders will have their annual picnic on the North side of Lake Quachita April 20-22.

On Saturday 21th, I understand Steve Johnson will be singing. April 28 Chapter E monthly meeting at Hester's. Make sure you are there, Jay Barnett will be giving a presentation on "Getting your Bike ready" and we will also have Dave Jerrels from AMPAC insurance company, to give us some information on Insurance requirements to cross into Canada since some of us are planning to go into Canada after we leave Wing Ding at Billings, MT. We will also go over the schedule for security at Ar-kansas District Rally being held May 10-12 here in Hot Springs, AR. April 28 Chapter T Rally. We can go down after our Monthly. MOTORIST AWARENESS,Terry Smith, M.A.D.

Coordinator

May is motorcycle awareness month, but every month should be motorcycleawareness month! It is the time of the year where we are going to start seeingmore and more motorcycles on the road everyday, and we are all guilty ofsaying oh, look, how pretty that one is, but how many do we not see because itisn’t pretty.

Ask a Policeman or a Fireman, just how many people have pulled out in frontof them while they had their red lights and sirens on. After a time we get tothe point where the things that made them stand out becomes old hat and wetend to look right through them. It doesn’t matter if it is a motorcycle or apolice car or a fire truck.

So as spring is now here it’s time to do some spring cleaning on our drivinghabits. Don’t take for granted just because we are a year older itautomatically makes us a better driver, because it doesn’t always work thatway. Bad driving habits just keep getting worse!PLEASE RIDE AND DRIVE SAFELY BECAUSE EVERYONES LIFE

DEPENDS ON IT!!!

Our staff is now complete with Steve and Kandi as our new Assistant Directors.

RIDER EDUCATION Wayne Tondro

At Wing Ding in Nashville a Doctor had a booth where he was selling gloves he claimed to have designed for truck-

ers to keep their hands from becoming numb. His claim was that they would do the same for motorcycle riders.

These gloves had special padding in the palm to relieve pressure at critical points of contact.

We are all encouraged to pay attention to our bikes with routine inspections and maintenance. We need to do this also with ourselves. Someone has suggested that before a ride it may be a good idea to do some hand and wrist exercises. Simple things like rotating the wrists in a circular motion, rub-bing the hands together for a couple of minutes, massage the wrists and knuckles. Anyone who has milked a cow knows the finger motion involved. Do that for a couple of minutes. All of this gets the blood circulating and loosens up the joints. Many of us do our own maintenance. There are some that either do not have to or cannot. There are times that a professional needs to do some of the work. This applies to both the bike and the our-selves. A recent email that most of us have seen has some truisms that may be worth sharing in our newslet-ter: Four Wheels move the body. Two wheels move the soul. If you wait, all that happens is you get older. Midnight bugs taste just as bad as noon time bugs.

Saddlebags can never hold everything you want, but they CAN hold everything you need. It takes more love to share the saddle than to share the bed. Never be afraid to slow down. Never hesitate to ride past the last street light at the edge of town. Young riders pick a destination and go – Older riders pick a direction and go. Keep your motorcycle in good repair. Motorcycle boots are not comfortable for walking. Never be ashamed to unlearn and old habit.

Two last one’s from Rider Education, Only bikers know why a dog sticks his head out of the car window. Gray-haired riders don’t get that way from pure luck. Rider education weekend is coming up the weekend of the 21st. Take advantage of some great classes. There is a schedule in the newsletter. Become involved in the education part of GWRRA. You will be glad you did. We have had some great Thursday rides, come join us.

BY THE BOOK By: Dale Wingrove

Region H Trainer

The “By The Book” articles are intended to help familiarize Volunteer Leaders and GWRRA Members with the guidelines, poli-

cies, procedures, and information contained in the GWRRA Officer’s Guidebook. Any quotes or references to topics contained

in our OGB should not be taken “out of context”. Please feel free to reprint these articles in Region, District and Chapter news-

letters. In the February 2007 issue of Wing World Magazine Jim Hutchins introduced a new program, the “Chapter of the Year

Program”. There are basic qualifications for chapters to qualify to be a Chapter of the year candidate. Most of these qualifica-

tions are in the OGB. The next few months we will let you know what those are. This month will be Chapter Positions on page

D-4 of the OGB.

I have listed below the basic Chapter Positions needed for qualification to the Chapter of the Year Program. There are many more very important positions listed on D-4 and D-5 of the OGB. Regardless of which positions you wish to adopt, the final goal is to have a well-organized and coordinated chapter where everyone shares the fun. When all Members have the opportunity to get involved, they become happy participants! It will take great skill to get all participants involved in the chapter. Maximize involvement, and you maximize par-ticipation!

The riding and rally season has arrived and we will be going to the Region Rally in Marshall, TX this weekend. From here on out it will be non-stop until fall rolls around. It arrived just in time as we were going stir crazy with nowhere to go and have fun with our GWRRA friends. Our Arkansas District Rally in Hot Springs is just around the corner. If you haven’t sent in your registration and made your reservations at the Velda Rose you need to do so soon, and get your name in the bucket, for the $250 pre-registration drawing. The registration form is located on the home page of the District website www.argwrra.org and when calling the Velda Rose for reservations be sure to mention you are with GWRRA or you will be told there are no rooms available as we have all rooms blocked for the rally. We have negotiated a great rate for you of $58 per night, so take advantage of it and make your reservations while there are rooms still available and come out and enjoy the rally with your friends and extended GWRRA family. Also, in the coming few weeks, don’t forget the other rallies and activities that have been planned for your enjoyment and training. Chapter E in Hot Springs (Mar 31st), LA District Rally in Lafayette, LA (Apr 12th – 14th), AR District Rider Ed Weekend in Morrilton (Apr 20th – Apr 22nd) and Chapter T in Texarkana (Apr 28th). Remember, all roads in Arkansas run in both directions. Support the other Chapters by attending their rallies and monthly gatherings and they will support you. You will have lots of fun and a great ride for the day. We also would like to announce our recent District Staff changes. Ken & Rhonda Holmes are our new District Treasur-ers and Bill & Belinda Shryock are serving as our District Webmasters. The next time you see them, let them know you appreciate them going the extra mile to serve the members of Arkansas. Until next time, ride safe and “Ride With Pride”. Dale & Carolyn
