The Ark of Solaris

I was given a premise by Eddie Smith in my con-cept art class with him at Digipen. The story wasvery basic, and my task was to develop this uni-verse visually.

This is my extrapolated version of Eddie's verysimple premise:

Humanity managed to wipe out Earth [again]. Agreat ship called "the Ark" was built. With thepopulation of a great city and the size of a small

asteroid, it was able to hold the last of human civil-zation. Its task was to find a new home on a newplanet, possibly Mars.

However, the Ark was not possible without theaide of extraterrestrial technology. An artifactwas unearthed not long before the cataclysm.This turned out to be a source of great energythat made the tremendous power requirements tobuild such a ship achievable and sustainable for along vayage.

This belonged to an aggressive race of alienswhom the humans call "Snaliens". Lost long agoon early visits to planet Earth, the power core waslost for untold eons. Activated anew by the sci-entists who found it, the core emitted an energy

signature detectable by the Snaliens. Now theywant it back and have openly attacked the Ark onits way to a new home.

The Snaliens are a telepathic and dark-mindedrace. Their technology and psionic abilities arefor greter than the frontier-like human space col-onists.

Another race of extraterrestrials, who claim to beallies to humanity, emerged from the darkness ofthe void. These Protectors are ancient enemies ofthe Snaliens and have been at odds with them fora very long time.

With a reinforcements on hand humanity nowstands a chance against the Snaliens and a greatbattle will soon take place.

iterations of this. Ikept hunting aroundthe idea of a shiplike a big ring. I keptthinking of the spin-ning space stationfrom 2001 that usedthe motion for arti-ficial gravity. Even-tually I got this ideathat looks some-thing like an auto-matic transmission.
