Growing Together as God’s Family

Reminder to the Youth & Foundation Classes

Chair Moving Today immediately after 2nd service

Anticipating February and March!

Thank you for your presence this morning! To our guests, we pray that you are

blessed and encouraged by our time together in worship. We are in the midst of

a sermon series on The Sermon on the Mount entitled The World Jesus

Imagines. In a world where we often focus on the externals, Jesus reminds us

that true righteousness begins with the heart! As one author put it a few years

ago, it is righteousness from the inside out!

As we anticipate the next two months at Monterey, let me encourage you to

mark these dates on your calendars:

Monterey Foundation Dinner. The Monterey Foundation will host its third

Annual Fund-Raising Dinner in the Worship Center on Thursday,

February 27th, at 6:30 p.m. Tickets will be available beginning next

Sunday; the cost is $350 for a table of eight, or $50 for individual tickets.

Approximately 200 attended last year’s dinner, and many of you have

made contributions to the Foundation. Since its beginning in 2008, the

Foundation has provided financial resources for world missions,

community ministries, and educational pursuits.

Kenya Coast Missions Conference. The Monterey Missions Committee

will host a Kenya Coast Missions Conference on Friday evening and

Saturday, March 28-29. We are grateful for our partnership with Jim &

Phyllis Beck who are in Lubbock for the spring semester, but who minister

in Malindi, Kenya from May-December each year. Our involvement in

that work continues to expand, and the conference will enable us to learn

even more about the opportunities for ministry in Kenya. Several folks

will speak during the conference, including two of the Beck’s African co-

workers, Daniel Chengo and Stephen Thethe, whom Monterey also

supports. We anticipate participation from other churches and

organizations who are connected to the work in Kenya, and I am prayerful

that a large group from Monterey will attend.

Annual Special Missions Contribution. Our third annual Special Missions

Contribution is scheduled for Sunday, March 30th. Our goal is $110,000,

the amount given in our 2013 contribution. This special contribution

enables us to honor our commitment in a number of mission efforts beyond

our regular operating budget. I encourage you to prayerfully consider your

participation in this year’s contribution.

City-Wide Worship Assembly. We will join with other churches of Christ

across our city for a city-wide worship assembly on Sunday, March 30th,

at 5:00 p.m. in the Civic Center Theatre. It will be a great opportunity to

enjoy fellowship with brothers and sisters from other churches in Lubbock.
