How would you find out how much

carpet you would need for your

bedroom?Learner Objective(s):

As a result in learning, students should be able to… find the area of triangles, quadrilaterals, and trapezoids and apply this in composite figures

CCES:• .G.6 Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving area, volume and surface area of two- and three-

dimensional objects composed of triangles, quadrilaterals, polygons, cubes, and right prisms.• MP.1 Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.• MP.2 Reason abstractly and quantitatively.• MP.3 Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others.• MP.4 Model with mathematics• MP.6 Attend to precision.

Using your prior knowledge, can you give me some real life

examples of when you would use area? perimeter?

Page 3: Area & Perimeter (Review)

Real life examples Area- how much carpet to put in

your living room.

Perimeter- put up a fence around your backyard.

Page 4: Area & Perimeter (Review)

Amount of surface space that a flat object has. It’s always measured in square units. Ex: cm2, mm2, ft2

Page 5: Area & Perimeter (Review)

Area = 15 square feet, or 15ft2

Lets find the area of this surface if each square is equal to one foot using number squares. Count the number of squares.

How about other polygons?

Triangle

Page 7: Area & Perimeter (Review)

Square , Rectangle, & Parallelogram

Area = b x h

Page 8: Area & Perimeter (Review)

Trapezoid

Area = ½ (b1 + b2) * h

Page 9: Area & Perimeter (Review)

Let’s review…

Area of a triangle is __________

Area of a square, rectangle & parallelogram is __________

Area of a trapezoid is ________

Page 10: Area & Perimeter (Review)

The distance around the outside edge of a flat object. It’s the total number of units

Page 11: Area & Perimeter (Review)

Perimeter = 24 feet or 24 ft.

Let’s find the perimeter of this surface if each square is equal to one foot. Count the number of sides.
