In this issue:
Hello Area F,
It was so nice meeting you at the CADA Convention in San Diego. If I didn’t get a chance to meet you or you were unable to attend, my name is Kevin Fairman and I’m your CADA Area F Coordinator! I’m currently working at Ocean View High School in Huntington Beach, CA. I have been a member of CADA for twelve years and have served as a member of the Area F Council for four years. I got involved with CADA because of activities directors like Dave Adams and Turbo Garcia. They were my mentors and as Area Coordinator I want to do the same for you.
Area F was well represented at the CADA Convention in San Diego. Area F had over 350 attendees, which equated to over 25% of the entire convention. All Area F members I talked to had nothing but positive things to say about our keynote speakers, meet the pros, curriculum roundtable and the workshops in general. The new members especially were overwhelmed with all the information and resources they received in such a short period of time. Great problem to have!
During the Convention, the Area F Council added three new members: Deniz Fierro, a
7th grade leadership teacher & World History GATE teacher from Kraemer Middle School; Petra Davis, an Activities Director & 8th Grade Science Teacher from Las Flores Middle School; and Ken Nedler, an Activities Director/Administrator from Dana Hills High School. Welcome Aboard!
Congratulation goes out to two Area F members, Mary Jane Smith, the winner of the Area F Service Award winner. “You can’t get more enthusiastic about the CADA organization than Mary Jane Smith. She has more CADA than blood running through her veins.” And Heidi Choi, the Bob Burton Spirit Award winner. Heidi has embraced everything that CADA has to offer and received her MAA (Master Activity Advisor) Certification at the CADA Convention in San Diego. She dedicates herself unselfishly to the students, parents, and staff of Upland High School, bringing real professionalism to the job each and every day. Great Job ladies!!
Area F has already started planning for our three upcoming fall conferences, which has something for everyone. The advisor conference, which is for new and veteran advisors, is at Chino Hills High School, September 17, 2011. The middle school conference is at the
Orange Terrace Community Center Riverside, October 6, 2011. And the finally, the high school conference is at the Disneyland Hotel and Resort on November 21, 2011.
Thank you for all you do for students and enjoy the last few month of the school year!
Students don’t always say it…so I will for them: Thank you for all you do because without you, your school would not be the same.

Inspirational Loss
As we were networking at the CADA Conference with some of our fellow leadership friends, we starting discussing the different shows that we watch. Oprah
came up ( it is a group of women talking by the way) We were discussing how she treats her guests and come to find out that one of our own was on her show. She was on her show because of her indcredible desire to loose weight and her results.
Barbara Kelley had been trying to adopt kids and they had to have a special release for her. This was the motivation for her to loose weight and become an inspiration to so many millions of people. Barbara was asked to share her story with many audiences one of which was the Oprah Show.
Barbara said she counted calories and was very
disciplined. Way to go, thanks for showing us that if you have determination and drive you can do anything!!

A Cada Moment
The Other Side The San Jacinto High School Associated Student Body joined forces with Riverside County Department of Health to create a campaign that will help combat the growing problem of bullying in our schools. The “Take a Stand, Lend a Hand – Stop Bullying” campaign will focus on the different types of bullying and how we can help stop the trend. The video features students and staff members talking about what they think about bullying and the effects it has on people. The video will be shown in our advisory classes and presented to other high schools in Riverside County.
San Jacinto High School celebrated their Football Homecoming by using the Chinese calendar. The Year of the Tiger was fitting since their mascot is a tiger. Each year the community gathers for the Annual Homecoming Parade that goes through downtown San Jacinto. Chinese dragons, class and club floats, fire trucks with cheerleaders and our tiger mascot, SJHS Marching Band, Color Guard, and AFJROTC participated in the traditional event. The crowning of the 2010 Homecoming Queen took place during the halftime of the varsity game. The fans were taken on a trip through the Orient and celebrated the Year of the Tiger. As a traditional part of SJHS Football Homecoming, the “S” on the mountain north of the high school was lit and the entire valley was able to view the amazing sight.

HOW DO I GET TO CADA?It’s not too early to think ahead for next year....
This is going to be an event to remember. A time where people who love kids get a chance to fellowship and network.
It is time to starting planning your way to CADA in San Diego. In this economy it can be tough, here are a few suggestions to help you find your funds.
* Associated Student Body funds can legally pay for your CADA registration, hotel, travel expenses and substitute teacher costs
* School site and district budgets
* Tobacco Use Prevention Education (TUPE)
* Title IV (Drug Free Schools)
* School Improvement Funds (SIP)
* Title 1(under the category of “safe and orderly environment)
* Title V (innovated programs)
* Pupil Retention Block Grant
* Staff development monies
* If these options don’t work for you think about paying out of your own pocket and using it as a tax write off

A Big Thank You....This has been my first
experience as a writer for any type of publication. I can not tell
you how nervous I was to take on
this role. CADA is such an incredible organization that I was
worried that I wouldn’t live up to the reputation.
The people who make up our
organization are outstanding. They take time to notice others
and practice what they preach to
their students about inclusion.
Members from State Board, to Area Councils to long time
retiree’s make you feel welcome
and secure.
I wanted to say thank you for
allowing me to write for our area and giving me an opportunity to
participate in something that I
learn from on a constant basis.

CALENDAR OF EVENTS
1. We sometimes find that we are stuck in the same rut when it comes to elections. I have had a few people ask for new and improved ways to run elections. Most ASB directors want kids that are willing and ready to work. So they avoid elections in general. Here is one idea based on college conferences.
