mechanism. A great project manager can do this on the fly, whether that means grabbing a
whiteboard, or piece of paper – what’s important is that the project manager takes the time to
make sure that the team understands and if that requires some quick thinking on the fly, that’s
just what they’ll do.
Another quality seen in the best project managers, is their personal accountability and their
ability to build trust consistently. When a project manager is able to build relationships with his
team based on trust, he/she is highly respected. These are powerful relationships and team
members who are respected and trust their project manager will give the project their best. This
type of project manager will also see opportunities to advance employees, and situations where

an employee with plenty of potential needs some skill upgrading. They will evaluate their team
members and have an honest dialogue with them.
