eClinicalWorks Hardware Specifications Document Change Log ‐ Updated 07‐2013 ▪ 2
HARDWARE SPECIFICATION CHANGE LOG The following document provides the most recent hardware specifications for the eClinicalWorks Electronic Medical Record and Practice Management software application, Version 9.
An eClinicalWorks Technical Architect (TA) will review the practice’s inventory of planned hardware—whether new or existing—to ensure that the hardware being used for the eClinicalWorks EMR/PM application will provide a positive user experience and be adequate to meet future growth requirements as anticipated by the practice/group.
For those practices that are purchasing or upgrading hardware, eClinicalWorks recommends 64‐Bit hardware, as 32‐Bit hardware will soon be out of date. However, pilot testing with eClinicalWorks V9 on 32‐Bit machines has been performed with no negative impact on performance for five (5) or less providers.

Analog Fax Refer to the Analog Fax Server Solutions page.
Digital Fax Refer to Digital Fax Server Solutions page.
CONNECTIVITY
Alternative Connectivity Methods
SSL Client: eClinicalWorks Web‐based secure encrypted client.
Remote Desktop ‐ used for remote anywhere access outside of the office.
It is recommended that all practices have redundant ISP Internet due to the risks involved in single point of failure on Internet connection to the data centers.
Minimum Network Performance Recommendations
eClinicalWorks evaluates minimum network recommendations based on the following parameters: Latency: Maximum 50MS latency round trip on a standard ping packet Packet Loss: Less than 1% packet loss Bandwidth: Bandwidth recommendations will vary on number of users per location Contact your Sales Coordinator for details.

eClinicalWorks Hardware Specifications Install Notes ‐ Updated 08‐2013 ▪ 5
SERVER INSTALL NOTES It is recommended that servers for eClinicalWorks software are not used in any other role, i.e., Active Directory, RAS, DHCP, IIS, and/or Terminal server,
another HER. An eClinicalWorks Technical Architect will provide hardware recommendations for clients with multiple tenant architectures. An SSL Security certificate for FTP and APP is required if using the eClinicalWorks SSL client. eBO Reports server supports up to 10 concurrent eBO users. For 10+ concurrent eBO users, refer to Optional Items Recommendations page. FTP and DB data size estimates do not take into consideration initial migration footprint from another system.
PERFORMANCE AND SCALING NOTES eCW recommends a separate physical drive for the data partitions (RAID strongly recommended for the backups and logs).
Database server averages 5GB each per FTE over three (3) years. FTP averages 11GB per FTE over three (3) years. eCW recommends that OS drives be on separately configured RAID 1 sets. For the best performance, eCW recommends that the DATA drive be on a RAID 10 partition with 10k or faster spindles. For virtual servers from one (1) to nine (9) providers please contact an eCW Technical Architect. Hardware load balancer is required for two (2) or more application or eBO servers – check with an eCW Technical Architect for details. RDP V6.0 is the minimum recommended for terminal services.
