Key Assump:ons
September 17, 2015 2
• No technology constraints – Unlimited processing, storage, memory, bandwidth
– Sensors are small, cheap, ubiquitous, connected – Wearable compu:ng – Internet of Things
• Content “ready” (condi:oned) for use in AR experiences – Informa:on units are “atomic” (and subatomic) – More content assets in proximity than human or machine can process

Benefits of AR Discovery
• Publisher benefits – Greatest poten:al reach to audiences with interest and in context
– Reduces (eliminates) need for direct “AR app” development
• End user benefits – Greatest breadth and depth of experiences – No effort (all automated) – Preferred client applica:ons and hardware

What’s Missing?
• Intelligence in network-‐based iden:ty and data management systems
• Mobile user agents • Experiences connected to (cataloged in) AR Discovery services
• Rela:onships between publishers and the individual user

When Will AR Discovery Maaer? • Like search for the Web, AR Discovery is important once ecosystem approaches – Cri:cal mass of users enabled with AR-‐enabled devices (and socware)
– Cri:cal mass of content • Does it have to be defined in categories (see metadata)? • Exceeds that which can appear on a map or a list
– Agreed upon conven:ons for metadata – Open and interoperable systems
• Users place value on an:cipatory services, more than on manual search or simply serendipity

Conclusions • Discovery benefits – Publishers – End users – Device manufacturers – Infrastructure providers
• It does not increase market for providers of AR authoring pladorms
• Exis:ng technologies can be used to prototype • Proven business models need to be explored • There is an unobstructed opportunity to engage with stakeholders about discovery for AR
