Next remove the magazine, pull back the bolt, and carefully inspect the chamber to be sure the rifle is loaded. This mount fits .303 Enfield No.1 Mk3 only. It CANNOT be modified to fit .308 Enfields because the width of the charging bridge on a .308 is narrower. Step #1 Install the 8-32x 1/2” set screw in the vertical tapped hole in the front of the mount. Install the screw until it extends below the bottom of the mount approx 3/8”. The intent is for the set screw to “bite” or be forced into the receiver by tightening rear screws. Step #2 Install the (2) 8-32 x 1/4# set screws lengthwise in the bottom of the mount. Install the screws until flush with the rear face. Note: The screws will be easier and quicker to install if started from the rear face. Step #3 Set the mount in place on the receiver and closely check the fit of the mount to the receiver front ring. The mount should fit even and snug to the receiver. Note: On a very few guns it may be necessary to tap the mount down with a plastic mallet. Step #4 While holding the scope mount securely to the receiver start tightening the (2) lengthwise set screws. Tighten the screws alternately. Note: After firing your Enfield rifle re-check the lengthwise set screw to make sure they are tight and secure.

SUGGESTED ADDITIONAL TIPS FOR INSTALLING THE ENFIELD MOUNT

Using a file undercut the lower section of the vertical face on the Charger Bridge, this will assist to pull and hold down the back of the mount when tightening the two screws.

Position the mount onto the rifle and hold in place (a clamp is recommended), mark the area of contact where the vertical screw makes contact with receiver face. Mark this area and remove the mount. (Rubbing some chalk onto the thread on the vertical screw may assist to mark the area).

Using a "Dremel Drill Bit" or similar rough this surface area, which will give the vertical 8-32x1/2"screw more grip for the mount in its position.
