This twin buildings were one of the minor projects undertook for a client/builder, prem. The concept was simple, balance of horizontality and verticality of massing. The facade design varies slightly to give the buildings distinctive identity but the floor plans of both buildings remain the same. The house is designed to utilize maximum site area , building with large openings to allow ample lighting and ventilation and complies to all the basic rules of vaastu.

Access: is from kutcha road deviating from the main road entry to the sitefrom the western side.

SOS Bangalore The SOS childrens village bangalore was set up in the capital of theThe SOS childrens village bangalore was set up in the capital of the southern federal state of karnataka. The construction started in 1988, the first families moved in 1989. Bangalore, even though known as garden city, has a lot of industry in the suburbs. The population speaks local language, kannada. The climate of this region is very agreeable. The design responsibility was given to MISTRY architects of Bangalore. A pre-requisite of SOS Villages International is that they should be built within an existing social environment, so that they are not isolated fromwithin an existing social environment, so that they are not isolated fromthe urban context of the town or city they are in. The architecture is at-tractive, well designed and sincere, and represents a modern interpre- tation of the local vernacular stone building.the village consists of 16 houses, a village directors house, a community house and a workshop. it has its own sos kindergarten and an sos hermann gmeiner socialcentre which also houses a clinic. this is open to the population of the neighborhood too. The large natural pond of thevillage,which contains many varieties of fish and other wildlife is the de-light ofthe children.

SOS Childrens village, Aqaba, Jordan - a literature study

PROJECT DETAILS> Architects: Jafar Tukan & Partners, Amman Jordan.> Design: March 1988- Jan 1989.> Construction: Feb 1989- June 1991.> Date of completion: Aug 1991.> Site area: 20,000 sqm.> Ground coverage: 2700 sqm.> Ground coverage: 2700 sqm.> Total floor area: 4000 sqm.> Sheltering nearly 100 children housed 9 in each dwelling.> Total cost excluding land: 1,73,107 USD.> Cost per sqm: 607 USD.>Land donated by Jordian govt. Cost managed 90% by pri-vate sources and 10% by public sources.

INTRODUCTION This SOS complex for orphaned children is located in the residential outskirts of the city of Aqaba, on the Red Sea.A pre requisite of SOS Villages International is that they should be built within an ex-A pre requisite of SOS Villages International is that they should be built within an ex- isting social environment, so that they are not isolated from the urban context ofthe town or city they are in. The architecture is attractive, well designed and sin-cere, and represents a modern interpretation of the local vernacular stone build-ing.The complex comprises of eight family houses, a staff house, an administration building, a guest house and the village director’s residence; all are plannedaround a village square and connected via pedestrian paths, gardens and alley-ways. Vaulted archways lead to shaded courts, while gardens surround the build- ings both within and on the edge of the village. On the southern border of the site,close to the main road, are located facilities that are shared with the local com- munity, namely a kindergarten, a supermarket, a pharmacy and a sports hall.

aim of the project Children are one of the mostChildren are one of the most sensititive group of societies. they hold the promise of the better tomorrow. Unfortunately many of them don’t have a family or guardian to depend upon. Another weaker section of the society are the elderly, anandoned by families, who need inspiration andby families, who need inspiration and love. The objective of hope village is to bring THE KIDS AND THE ELDERLY together in one small co-dependent community and ensure their betterliving.

SCHOOL BLOCK The design concept employed here is horizontality and blending with nature which complied well with low cost construction. The building is an aesthetic combination of concrete and bricks, with flat columns pulled out to act as ribs shading the open corridors. The plan is a classic U shaped open plan with a couryard in the center for assembly and activity purposes

ADMIN BLOCKThis block is a semi open block This block is a semi open block with linear arrangement of rooms and equal amount of corridor space. This also acts as a interactive place for various departments internally. The rooms have a slit on top through and through with the roof and through with the roof protruding to protect it. The angled louvers on one side provide shade to the open area.

EATERY BLOCKThis block is the comercial and This block is the comercial and social interactive arena for the neighborhood. Its a common zone for the hope residents and the public. It has a wide open plaza food court and the a inverted pitch roof with pergolas and glass cover. The kitchen and glass cover. The kitchen part of the building is with brick walls and compliments the concrete columns and roof structure. The capacity of food court is over 150 people.

AUDITORIUM BLOCKA private auditorium of 700 capacity is very sleek iconic A private auditorium of 700 capacity is very sleek iconic looking building with an outer shell encompassing the core theatre building. Its shape is conducive for the equal distribution of sound and maintain acoustics. The facade is an interesting curtain wall made of jaali screens fixed with MS box sections. The pop of color adds an interesting ring to the entrance face.

HOUSING BLOCKHousing is the largest block and falls under private zone.The houses and inspired by american prairie style houses. Every cluster consists of four L shaped houses enclosing a central courtyard. The rooms of the top floor with long corridors gives a lavish view of the courdyards below. The house is an aesthetic combination of concrete and brick construction.
