I joined Roseta Vaz Monteiro Arquitectos in the fall of 2012 where I did my intern-ship to become a registered architect in Portugal. After my internship and with 1 year of experience I was invited to remain in the studio as an assistant architect. During this time I was involved in several projects with complex and varied pro-grammatic content, during all phases of project.
I would like to emphasize two projects due to their importance in my training:Hotel&Spa, Comporta_Worked in collaboration with MCM Design Studio based in Paris. The project involved 9 buildings including a main Hotel, Private Residences, Spa and a Chapel. Besides drawing 4 buildings, including the Spa and Chapel, I was in charge of the coordination between architecture and landscape teams.AH House, Sintra_I was the main collaborator in this project and was responsible for the implementation of Revit in the studio. This construction project was made exclusively in Revit, from detail drawing to schedules and I was in charge of the compilation of technical reference documents to aid in the work’s execution.
I have the privilege to work in one studio that is often recognized by its works, from which I must emphasize Boa Nova Church, Primary School and Community Centre.Filipa Roseta graduated in Architecture from Faculdade de Arquitectura da Univer-sidade Técnica de Lisboa in 1996 where, today, she holds a lecturer/tutor position in architectural design courses. She was based in London from 2006 to 2008 where she obtained a PhD from the Royal College of Art with a thesis entitled The Mod-ern Avenue. Francisco Vaz Monteiro graduated in Architecture from Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade Técnica de Lisboa in 1997. He was based in London, from 2006 to 2008, where he worked for Foster + Partners in teams developing large scale architectural projects for Moscow (Russia Tower and Pushkin Museum Extension), London (Battersea Masterplan), Lusail and Lisbon.

Due to the impossibility of Lisbon’s airport expansion, its transition to the periph-ery has been studied in the last years. The void that would result from that dis-placement was the senior’s year assignment challenge. In addition, this new urban area had to deal with opposite surroundings such as the new masterplan for Alta de Lisboa that include residential, commercial and business districts and the social and illegal housing.
The goal of this project was to restructure the entire area through improved mobil-ity, reorganized urban environment and new activities. Lisbon’s Northern Crown was divided in 10 regions and each one of them was carefully analysed in order to get the appropriate urban strategy.
The huge void left by the airport was transformed in the city’s central park that would be connected with downtown trough Almirante Reis Avenue. For the park’s surrounding regions was proposed the recast of streets, public places, services, in-dustrial and commercial areas and the improvement of housing. All districts would have a public square, a public building with services for the community and parks.
With this approach we can achieve a deep intervention in all neighborhoods and represent a major change to Lisbon.

TU/emasterproject IV Industrial WaterfrontsM. Ar. Irene Curruli - Terrafirma studio1 semesterTilburg, Netherlands2009/2010group assignment
Piushaven integrates a set of five industrial areas in Noort Brabant. Located in Til-burg, this waterfront is part of a project promoted by the municipal council that wants to restore its identity and importance in the city’s urban development.
The Piushaven area is characterized by big empty spaces and abandoned areas from an old industrial identity and by a small compact pattern made of residential and commercial buildings. The strategy is to fill and densify the empty spaces and to make match the new buildings with the old pattern of the area.
The old buildings are characterized by different shapes, colours and materials, but all together they contribute to the image of the waterfront. From the urban planning point of view the strategy aims to fill the empty spaces, playing with the structure of the existing old building and their mixed identity and functions. In this way the connection water-border and border-border are linked with the identity of each area, in order to get a variegated waterfront. The experience of walking through the new waterfront becomes in the entire patchwork piece a new surprise.
The canal is the precious element in the area but it is considered more like a bar-rier. Including it in the strategy it allows to use it like the link between diversities in order to create one identity in Piushaven.

The preservation of historic features and growth of port activity, were in centre of the discussion, to imagine a process that aims a sustainable development for the port city of Lisbon. The main goals of this workshop were to generate a meth-odology to contribute for the sustainable development of port cities, to discuss and produce projects that improve the quality of life at the city and enhance the competitiveness of the port and finally to understand that former industrial water-fronts are potential sites of continuity for urban morphology.
The Lisbon port Authority is planning since many yeas a new port facilities near the old fisher village Trafaria, belonging to the Almada community, located opposite the Lisbon district - Belém. Taking that into account, the proposal transfers the port facilities to the village and integrates them into the lifestyle and history of the district.
The preservation of the historic village centre and the improvement of transporta-tion infrastructures turn Trafaria into a new central point on Lisbon’s development and an important social activities route linking Liston to the coastal city Costa da Caparica. If recover the nature of fishing village improving port conditions and in-tegrate marinas increases tourism potential on the other hand the new port facili-ties will represent a significant economic development resulting in a sustainable approach that will revitalize the south bank of Tagus river.

TU/emasterproject IV Aesthetics of Sustainable DesignM. Ar. Sang Lee1 semesterEindhoven, Netherlands2009/2010individual assignment
Winkelcentrum Woensel is the biggest outdoors commercial centre in Eindhoven. Despite being a recent construction, its mono-functionality results in a great urban area that is only used during working hours. The challenge for this sustainable de-sign course was to develop a proposal that would bring new activities to the area with low environmental impact.
The proposal is to have new buildings in two of the existing parking lots on op-posite sides of the commercial centre. Relocating park facilities to an underground level the parking roof could be transformed in a green space to serve the surround-ing buildings.
On the west side of the commercial centre will be a public educational building and on the east side two residential towers. The connection between these two buildings would be made by two building-bridges that cross over the commercial centre roofs. In this way, is possible to reach a more wide use of the entire area trough green spaces with the transformation of the commercial centre roofs to public greenroofs.
Another important aspect of this proposal is the fact that the new buildings incor-porate a sustainable ventilation/heating system that consists to catch the predomi-nant winds on the public building and lead them trough the bridges to the tunnels inside the residential towers.

TU/eIntegrated Building TechnologiesProf. J. M. Post1 week“Extreme Location”2010individual assignment
This project is the result of a short term assignment entitled “Extreme Locations” from a course that approaches buildings through the analysis of urban plan, the building itself, its construction, façade, installation and finishes. In just 1 week, the challenge was to draw a Villa designed for upper-class couple with a large social network. The house should be located on a mountain slope and also respect a specific program.
The building concept is to distribute the space regarding the views and spread the building in the landscape having different point of view to the surrounding areas. The organization of the building is made by function and considers the relation with the outside areas. Due to the extreme conditions of the terrain, the building is divided in two floors half-buried in the ground however every main room is directly connected with outdoors. The public areas are in the top floor because the entry is made by the upper part of the slop and so the private area is located at the lower floor. The volume of the building is the resultant of the program and the concept. The design it’s a combination between straight lines and important viewpoints tak-ing into account the exterior spaces in the building and the impact that the exterior will have inside the rooms.

ISTMasterproject IIIAr. João Pedro Falcão de Campos1 semesterBarrocal, Portugal2008/2009individual assignment
Near Reguengos de Monsaraz, Herdade do Barrocal is part of a rural rehabilitation plan that started in 2002. With the touristic housing project proposed to the Her-dade in mind, the challenge was to create a 5 bedrooms house closely related to the surroundings filled with vegetation and rock formations.
The house spreads along two perpendicular volumes at different heights allowing a separation between private and social activities areas. The upper volume con-tains the private rooms, with bedrooms facing east to a privileged view over Mon-saraz. This volume works like a bridge since it starts semi-recessed on the hill and ends hanging over the lower volume. At the south edge, a library establishes the connection between both volumes, linking the private areas with the social ones. Outside, the upper volumes allows having a much needed shade that connects the garage with the main building.
The groundfloor volume is connected with outdoors at two different heights. The northern patio is placed 1 meter above the floor level allowing an interesting ex-perience for the dwellers since the patio enclosed by the hill is at the eyes height when they are sitting. The guests’ room is also located in this volume, at the east edge, to provide also the morning light and the view to its users. Every room has a wide window to promote a closely relation with the surrounding and invite the use of outdoor spaces, like the pool, a hidden oasis on this hot climate land.

ISTMasterproject IIIAr. João Pedro Falcão de Campos1 semesterOlaias, Portugal2008/2009individual assignment
Between Areeiro and Olaias, right in the center of Lisbon, is located a small valley with steep slopes strongly marked by the railway line that separates the Afonso Costa Avenue from the Bela Vista Park. The goal of this assignment was to design a housing project that articulates this valley with the surrounding area, exploring the opportunity to regenerate a section of the city mostly marked by social housing.
With 33.000m2 of gross floor area, the concept of the project is the conversion of this valley in a public park that would establish a direct relationship with the Bela Vista Park. Separated by the railway line, the strategy is to build a bridge that establishes the connection between the two parks. The housing occupies the West side of the valley and serves as a hinge element between the existing buildings, the valley and the Bela Vista Park.
The project consists of a set of adjacent buildings that run parallel to the existing ones and are developed below the elevation of the street towards the valley. The buildings are divided in terraces that follow the slope and at the northern edge the last terrace is transformed into a bridge linking the valley with the Bela Vista park across the railroad tracks. Access to buildings and through them to the valley is made by bridges that connect the street to roofs where there are private entrances for residents and public access to the new park at the bottom of the valley. With the buildings following the slope and creating a constant connection between the street and the valley, is possible to enjoy a privileged view over the park from inside and outside the buildings that plays a key role in the restructuring of the public spaces in this part of town.
