Active|Reactive: An Interactive Building Skin spring 2014

Architectural thesis project ‘Active | Reactive’ explores the design of a building membrane that is thoroughly reactive to its environment using new and innovative materials, passive sustainable techniques, and control systems to ensure that every renewable energy source is used.

This thesis project was awarded Second Place in the Southern Polytechnic State University Architecture Program Thesis Competition for Spring 2014.

615 Peachtree: A mixed use high-rise in Atlanta, GA spring 2013

This high rise tower project includes ground floor retail, 10 floors of office spaces, a double height recreation and community floor, 26 floors of mixed income housing, and 4 luxury penthouses. The tower is located at the very busy corner of Peachtree Street and North Avenue, and will encourage foot traffic as well as shopping to provide an economic gain in the area.

Lower Atrium The lower 10 office floors are lit by a large atrium which terminates into a skylight at the pool and recreation level. The skylight is connected to the pool, allowing about an inch of water to wash over the glass, creating ever changing light conditions in the atrium below.

Connect_ATL Office and Residential mid-rise spring 2012

This mixed use mid-rise in Atlanta, Georgia has the primary goal of connecting the city to its past. The design challenge came from the site, at the corner of Alabama Street and Central Avenue, where the zero mile marker is located. This marks the very spot where the city of Atlanta began as a railroad hub. The project is tasked with bringing light in to a very dark (underground) site, and to bring visitors down to engage with history.

This project was awarded Fourth Place in the Third Year Competition.

Dig Pavilion Multi-function pavilion fall 2010

This pavilion at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens is divided in to three areas: The Locavore Tissue Lab which provides a hands on learning experience, a presentation space named Cissus Hall for the plant that inspired its design, and a refreshment kiosk with restrooms which collects rainwater for reuse. The building digs in to the landscape and puts a very important, if not well represented, part of the plant on display at the gardens, the root system.

This project was chosen to be included in the Second Year Competition.

Kaskaden: Hanging Lamp Spring 2012

This lamp inspired by Bagsvaerd Church by Jorn Utzon was designed to let the light spread along its curves out from the center to create a soft, glowing ambiance. This way, the light is not too harsh from any angle, but subtly lights the space. The church uses the same technique to filter light in from the ceiling. My partner and I were awarded Third Place in the Lighting Design Competition for this lamp.

EcoWing :Bus Stop and Charging Station Fall 2013

This project was the result of a one day charette competition for all years of the Architecture Program at SPSU. The challenge was for teams to design a bus stop sited near campus that would successfully represent the school.

My team and I were awarded First Place in the school wide Charette Competition.

Design ProcessOur team based our design on the structure of a hornet wing, for the SPSU Hornets. The material making up the roof surface had printed solar cells to collect energy, and the structure itself collects water.
