objectives:
− create an inventory of shoreline/coastal shipwrecks− createanextensivefolderoneachsite− completeandverifythedatausingarchaeologicalexpertise− deducethrougharchaeologicalmethodsthemostsignificantshipwrecks− harmonisetheinformationinadedicatedsystem− publishtheresultsandaidmuseumsindisplayingcollections.
AccuMulAte inforMAtion for eAch site, including:
− preciseposition,natureoftheseabedandenvironmentalcontext− quality,conditionandextentofanyremainingrelicts'preservation− likelychronology− photos,drawings,andonlocationrecordingsoffeatures− takeaccountofdifferentanalysescarriedout− locateandtranscribedocumentsthatcontributetoitsidentification− referencerecognisedpublications.
Wecanthusfindoutamorecompletestoryoneachsite.AnexampleofutilizingAtlas:ifsomeonewantedtounderstandthelivinghistoryofaship,howashipwreckoccurredandtheoutcome;theycouldgathergeneralinformationonashipanditswrecking(archives,newspapers,newsclips,etc.)alongwiththeanthropometricanalysisofamaroonedperson’sburiedremains(i.e.L’îledeSeincemetery),andmonitor-photosoftheseabedsiteanditsfeatures(a.k.a.siteformationprocesses).
