Archaeologists and their work
Archaeologists study artefacts .
Artefacts are objects found from the past that give clues to historical living.
Archaeologists dig at sites where people from the past left evidence about the way they lived.
Good places for archaeological sites are...
Burial Chambers
Rubbish heaps
Old buildings
It is very important that the archaeological dig is carried out properly.
Can you dig it?
1st They remove a top layer of vegetation... e.g. Grass.
2nd They make a map or plan.
3rd They make a grid and mark it with numbers or letters.

4th Each dig is then dug out very ,very ,very carefully
They use trowels, brushes and buckets...they even use toothbrushes to remove muck from artefacts/objects they find...they could be priceless, so no messing!
5th They mark the map were an item was found, place it in a bag and then send it to be dated by scientists....

Stratigraphy –
The lower down it is the older it could be....
Carbon dating –
The less carbon contained in the plant or animal the longer the older they are.
Pollen analysis –
Pollen grains can be found after thousands of years and are studied by science.
