Since the enactment of the new International Arbitration Act in 2016, there has been a modernisation of South African arbitration law; which is stimulating the development of South Africa as a major regional arbitration centre.

centre. Werksmans is one of the signatories to the Johannesburg Consensus of the China Africa International Arbitration Centre (CAIAC), operating as an arbitration centre in South Africa and China.
