Imagine this. After years of preparationand planning, multi-million-dollarinvestments and with the whole world watching – NASA’s LDSD Mars Lander is � nally starting its descent onto the Red Planet. It needs to decelerate over 1,000km/h in just 90 seconds. The forces involved are enormous; the margins for error are tiny.

Have no fear, though. The parachute bridle was, in fact, produced by Yale Cordage, a company with an extensive record for producing high-performance ropes and cables, and integrates Technora®, Teijin Aramid’s ultimate-performance para- aramid. To create this custom rope, Yale Cordage combined 12 of Teijin’s single- braid ropes together to create a larger rope.

“Technora® was chosen as the perfect rope ingredient for this job because of its strength-to-weight ratio combined with its impressive heat resistance,” says Bill Putnam, President of Yale Cordage. “These are particularly necessary given the forces and operational parameters of that mission.
