2013

In 2013, Ronald McDonald House of Dallas served families with 17,787 nights of rest, nourishment and compassion. We saw greater need than ever as our daily capacity reached new heights. We formed new relationships and nurtured old ones. One thing is certain as I look back on 2013—the House That Love Built depends on every last one of our supporters to carry forth our mission of providing a temporary home-away-from-home for families with sick or injured children receiving medical treatment in Dallas hospitals. You make the difference!I’d like to share what one of our teenagers who lived at the House said of her experience during her recovery. She said “During my stay at the hospital, I felt so happy knowing my parents could go “home” at night and rest easy in a comfortable and caring environment. It truly means so much to have so many people with warm smiles and caring hearts surround you!” This community helped us achieve our goals and allowed us to continue serving these wonderful families. It is a terrible thing to have a serious health event befall your child, RMHD makes it a little more bearable. From our families, staff and volunteers, thank you for your unwavering support.

This year’s funding is similar to previous years, with the highest percentage of funds coming from individual and corporate contributions. Second to these gi�s are funds raised by our special events. Just under 5% of our opporating budget was contributed by Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Our VolunteersHundreds of volunteers support RMHD’s annual operations and fundraising activities by serving families at the House, preparing meals, and hosting organized activities. In 2013, over 13,000 volunteer hours were donated equaling a value of $292,500.

Meals That HealRMHD is one of few organizations (even among other Ronald McDonald Houses) that provides 3 meals a day for families. Over 1,000 meals were prepared by volunteers in our professional grade kitchen and served to out-of-town families staying at the House That Love Built.

The families staying at Ronald McDonald House of Dallas arrive from all over the nation and all over the world to receive treatment in Dallas area medical facilities. Social workers from these facilities refer patients in need of a temporary home to RMHD.

Our RoomsWith 6 apartments dedicated to transplant patients and 52 guest rooms Ronald McDonald House of Dallas was able to provide over 1,900 family stays in 2013. It is a joy to be able to serve so many families and provide a temporary home where children and families can heal together. Since opening our doors, RMHD has served more than 34,000 families. Although families are asked to contribute $15 per family per night, no one has ever been turned away because of an inability to pay. The actual cost per night to house a family is approximately $125—a cost largely covered by individual and corporate donors, community organizations, and special events. We are appreciative of our dedicated community that continues to make our mission possible and serve families in need.
