Lifeguard TrainingLifeguards undergo continuous training to

maintain their skills, knowledge and tness

levels. Staff members are required to

recertify important certications, such

as their National Lifeguard and Standard

First Aid. Some lifeguards pursue further

training in specialty courses that highlight

additional skills and use of equipment.

Richmond Hill Lifesaving Club (RHLC)RHLC introduces athletes of all ages to

the sport of lifesaving, while encouraging

healthy activity and regular physical tness.

Throughout the year, Lifesaving Sport

Coaches will concentrate on developing

swimmers strength, power and endurance.

Swimmers will focus on teamwork,

sportsmanship and achieving personal

bests in a fun and encouraging environment. During the competition season,

members train for a number of pool events and can participate in the RHLC

Games twice per year and the Ontario Pool Junior Lifeguard Games in June.

In addition, swimmers can also compete at the Ontario Waterfront Junior

Lifeguard Games in August.

Registration for RHLC programs are ongoing throughout each session.

Lifesaving Society Bronze StarGet your rst Bronze Bronze Star introduces a training standard designed to deliver

high-performance swim training for skilled pre-teen, who must complete a 400m timed

swim. The focus is on developing problem-solving and decision-making skills in water.Basic lifesaving and resuscitation techniques are also introduced. This program is excellent

preparation for success in Bronze Medallion.

Lifesaving Society Bronze Star Small GroupGet your rst Bronze in a small group setting This program focuses on all the content

from the Bronze Star program, but with a smaller class size.

Lifesaving Society Combined Bronze Medallion & EFAEarn two awards at the same timeLearn tows, carries and release methods in preparation

for challenging rescues, along with how to treat victims suffering from shock, bleeding

or a heart attack. Obstructed airway assistance procedures are also taught. In addition,

lifesavers will develop stroke efciency and endurance through a 500m, 15 minute

timed-swim. Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid EFAare both prerequisites for the

Bronze Cross Award. Prerequisite: Minimum 13 years old or Bronze Star.

Lifesaving Society Bronze Medallion Re-ExamGet the Bronze Medallion The Bronze Medallion Re-Exam provides another

opportunity to pass the exam if you were not successful or did not attend the nal

exam. This program also offers Bronze Medallion recertication. Prerequisite: Minimum

13 years old or Bronze Star.

Lifesaving Society Emergency First AidLooking to learn Emergency First Aid? This course is designed for those who want to gain

a general knowledge of rst aid principles and the emergency treatment of injuries. The

skills taught include: victim assessment, rescue breathing, CPR, and obstructed airway

procedures, as well as dealing with external bleeding, heart attacks and strokes. This

course includes CPR-B certication.

Lifesaving Society Bronze CrossGo for bronzeBronze Cross is designed for lifesavers who want the added challenge of more

advanced training, including an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic environments.

Emergency procedures, teamwork rescues and management of a spinal-injured victim are

also emphasized. The ability to swim 600m in an 18-minute timed-swim will be evaluated.

Bronze Cross is the prerequisite for all advanced training programs in lifesaving, lifeguarding,

and aquatic leadership. Prerequisites:Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid.

Lifesaving Society Bronze Cross Re-ExamGet the Bronze CrossThe Bronze Cross Re-Exam provides another opportunity to pass the

exam if you were not successful or did not attend the nal exam. This program also offers

Lifesaving Society Assistant InstructorBecome an assistant instructor The Lifesaving Society Assistant Instructor course will

prepare you to help qualied instructors with swimming and lifesaving classes. It involves over

16 hours of classroom learning and in-water practise. This course is designed to introduceyou to the key principles of learning and teaching motor skills while mastering basic swim

progressions. Safe and effective formations and class management are also emphasized.

Prerequisite: Bronze Cross or higher.

Lifesaving Society Standard First AidFocus on First Aid Standard First Aid provides comprehensive training related to all

the aspects of rst aid and CPR. This course promotes an in-depth understanding of

rst aid, addressing topics such topics such as legal implications of rst aid, spinal injuries,heat or cold injuries, bone and joint injuries, abdominal and chest injuries, burns, and

medical emergencies. LSS Standard First Aid also includes CPR-C certication. The program

fee includes the LSS certication fee and required materials. If your last LSS Standard First

Aid course was a recertication, you must take this course to renew it.

Important Standard First Aid Information!Lifesaving Society Standard First Aid (SFA) award holders may recertify their Lifesaving Society SFA

Lifesaving Society Standard First Aid Recerticationou can get recertied in LSS Standard First AidThis recertication course provides testing

and re-training related to all aspects of rst aid and CPR. This course is for those who have

taken a full LSS Standard First Aid course and no more than three years have passed

since the SFA date of issue. If your last course was a recertication, you must take a fullLSS Standard First Aid course. You will be evaluated on topics such as legal implications

of rst aid, spinal injuries, heat or cold injuries, bone and joint injuries, abdominal and

chest injuries, burns, and medical emergencies. This course also includes CPR-Level C

Learn to teach swimming and lifesavingThrough classroom learning and in-water practise,

the Swim Instructor & Lifesaving Instructor course will certify you to teach most lifesavingawards. The Swim Instructor component will prepare you to teach and evaluate basic

swim strokes and related skills found in any program. Practise teaching is emphasized.

Prerequisite: Minimum 16 years old by the end of the course and Bronze Cross or

higher. The program fee includes the LSS certication fee and required materials.

Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor Update ClinicLearn the Lifesaving Societys Swim for Life ProgramThis course is for candidates who

currently hold a swim instructor certication from another agency and would like to become

certied as a Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor. Prerequisites: Minimum 16 years old,Bronze Cross, proof of instructor certication from another agency program fees include

all course materials.

National Lifeguard Skill PracticePractice your lifeguard skillsThis clinic is designed for those who plan to participate in the

National Lifeguard Certication program, recertify their National Lifeguard Certication or

practise skills for a Richmond Hill Aquatic Wet Interview. You will have an opportunity to

practice the physical components of the National Lifeguard Certication object recovery,rescue drill, DNS approach and carry, spinal roll/carry, head-up swim, and endurance

challenge. Prerequisites: Minimum 15 years old and Bronze Cross.

Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard PoolThis nationally recognized program will help you become a lifeguardCourse components

include learning to recognize, interpret and deal with emergency situations, carrying out

rescue procedures, and providing emergency care. The primary emphasis is on accident

training for lifesaving instructors who wish to coach lifesaving sport at the community level.

The course focuses on the fundamentals of coaching and lifesaving sport skills in the pool

or in open water, increasing the competencies of lifesaving coaches at the community

program level. Prerequisites: Lifesaving Instructor and and Emergency First Aid.

Lifesaving Society Advanced Instructor/Examiner Standards ClinicGain new instruction skills The Advanced Instructors course prepares swimming

instructors to teach advanced Lifesaving Society programs. This course is combined with

the Lifesaving Societys Examiners Standards Clinic, which enables instructors to examine

Bronze level courses. This certication is a prerequisite for NL, First Aid, AED and AST

instructors and instructor trainers. Prerequisites: Lifesaving Instructor and Bronze Cross.

Experience teaching lifesaving programs is required.

Lifesaving Society Aquatic Supervisor TrainingGet set to superviseThis course is ideal for aquatic staff members looking to become

Deck Level Supervisors. Aquatic Supervisor Training provides the knowledge required

to ensure a safe aquatic environment for swimmers and instructors in and out of the

water. Prerequisites: NL or Lifesaving Instructor and 100 hours of lifeguarding and/or

instructing experience.

Lifesaving Society First Aid InstructorCertify yourself as a First Aid Instructor through the Lifesaving Society. Learn how to deliver

the programs ensuring that you are teaching the right standards in a logical sequence.

Candidates are expected to complete a precourse assignment and, therefore, registrationwill be closed one week prior to start date. Prerequisites: Lifesaving Instructor (current

and Advanced Instructor.

Lifesaving Society AST InstructorThis course is for experienced instructors. Candidates must also have several years

of supervisory experience as an aquatic manager, supervisor, head instructor or head

lifeguard. The course teaches the concepts, principles and techniques used in training AST

candidates. Prerequisites: Lifesaving Instructor and Advanced Instructor.

Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard InstructorThe Lifesaving Societys National Lifeguard Instructor course prepares and certies

instructors to teach all options of the National Lifeguard certication. Prerequisites: NL
