INTRODUCTIONAquatic Eco-System: About 75% of earth
surface is covered by water, where 97% of water are salt water, 2% of water are from glaciers, and only 1% of water is available as fresh water.

DEFINITION An aquatic ecosystem is an ecosystem
in a body of water. Communities of organisms that are dependent on each other and on their environment live in aquatic ecosystems.
TYPES: Fresh water ecosystem salt water ecosystem

Fresh water ecosystem: Ponds streams Lakes Rivers
Salt water ecosystem: Oceans estuaries

RIVERS (OR) STREAMS A large natural flow of water that
crosses an area of land and goes into an ocean, a lake, etc. Usually well oxygenated, because it absorbs oxygen from air, The number of animal are low in river or stream

CHARACTERISTICS It is a fresh water and free flowing water
system.
Due to mixing of water, dissolved oxygen content is more.
River deposits large number of nutrients.

Abiotic components: Temperature Light Nutrients
Biotic components: Producers(Phytoplankton, algae) Primary consumers(insect, snails) Secondary consumers(bird, mammals) Decomposers(bacteria, fungi)

SALT WATER ECOSYSTEM OCEANS:
The vast body of salt water that covers almost three fourths of the earth's surface. It consist of high concentration of salts and minerals, It also provides us iron, magnesium, phosphorous, natural gas.

ZONES OF OCEANSCostal zone: It is a warm and primary
productivity zone due to sunlight , nutrients.
Open sea: It is a deeper part of sea ,
classified into 3 zones Euphotic zone: Abundant light Bathyal zone: Dim light Abyssal Zone: Dark, Deep Zone

CHARACTERISTICS It occupies the large area of saline
water.
It helps human in commercial activities.
It moderates the temperature of the earth.

Abiotic components: Temperature Light Salt
Biotic components: Producers: phytoplankton's Consumers: Primary: fish Secondary: mackerels Tertiary: cod ,haddock Decomposer: Bacteria, fungi

ESTUARIES An estuary is a partially
enclosed costal area at the mouth of river where river joins the sea. Estuaries are abundant of nutrients , they are useful to human beings due to their high food potential

CHARACTERISTICS The zone that affect the tides of the sea.
Water characteristics are periodically changed
The living organism in estuaries have wide tolerance.
Salinity remains high during summer and low during winter.
