Hats off to Roy and Carolyn Queen for their St. Patrick’s Day get together. Therewas plenty of the traditional corned beef, cabbage, carrots, and potatoes. We alsohad a few delicious shepherd’s pies and a couple of Irish stews, one made with a bit ofthe Jameson’s.
Next month is the big event, our opening day on April 11th. We had hoped for theparking lot to be finished in time, bit it won’t be complete. We will use the space nearthe trailer parked in front of our clubhouse. Next year we will have a new parking lotand plenty of space. Of course this is great, since yours truly will be in charge of thatevent.
Thank you all who showed up for Clean Up Day. Much was accomplished, including organizing the storage shed, the refrigerator, power washing the tables andchairs, and interior carpet cleaning.
It has been a sad month, sort of, as I havesold my West Wight Potter. I received an offertoo good to refuse. So after eleven years ofPotterdom I now am the proud owner of a1989 Catalina 22 with a fixed wing keel and apop top. I will still sail with the Potters everymonth. This boat has a lot more room bothinside and outside, yet still fits on a trailer.
Congratulations to our new members thismonth, including Mo and Cathy Iacuelli seenhere receiving their Navy Yacht Club LongBeach Burgee.
See you on Opening Day,
Gary

Greetings, Friends!
March was one of the warmest months on record, but our little clubhouse by thesea was a haven and escape from the heat of those days. Our potluck dinners onFriday nights sometimes had over forty members enjoying themselves and having a“cool” time. With summer on the horizon, I’m confident that evenings at the clubhousewill continue to be a welcome and much-appreciated place to chill out from the hot daysto come.
Opening Day on April 11 is the biggest event of the year for our club. This yearwe will have many guests from other yacht clubs—flag officers, city managers, andother honored guests.
The tradition of yacht club opening days goes back hundreds of years. In fact, theRoyal Cork Yacht Club, founded in Ireland in 1720, is widely acknowledged as one ofthe oldest yacht clubs in the world.
Opening Day celebrates the beginning of a new sailing/yachting season. Yachtclubs from all over the area gather together at the various clubs to show support andfriendship. We celebrate a mutual love for the ocean and yachting in general. Thetraditional dress of navy blazers and white slacks, along with appetizing food andraising a glass to toast the new season, all add to the festive atmosphere, historicalceremony, and celebration that have become the traditions of opening days.
I hope to see you all there on April 11. As the saying goes, “Many hands makelight work,” and we will need lots of helping hands to overcome the construction workthat is being done in front of our clubhouse to prepare for our opening day.

Hello from your Jr. Staff Commodore,
Well, this will be short and sweet. We just had our clubhouse clean up day and GaryHalliburton had a great turn out; in fact I think at times people were in each other’sway.
The most important event coming up is our Opening Day event on April 11th. I havealready received RSVP’s and I hope to get more before our BIG day. Theconstruction crew has assured us that they will open up the area in front of theclubhouse for our ceremonies minus moving the trailer.
This past weekend members have asked what do I wear to our Opening Dayceremonies. The officers of the club should be wearing a blue blazer/jacket, whitepants or skirt and tie or scarf. Members can wear appropriate nautical attire. Also I’m looking for members to help out that day.
If you have any ideas that would make our Opening Day a great success please emailme at [email protected], or call me at714-842-1381.
Thank you,Victor PadillaJr. Staff Commodore

Hello All,
Our cruise-out to Island White was changed to a cruise-out to the moorings atBelmont Pier. What a great, new mini-destination for our yacht club. We had 6 boatsand 17 members for the event. Friday evening we had a pot-luck of grilled steaks,Caesar salad and asparagus aboard “I Sea Blues.”
We had a fierce competition of bocce ball on shore Saturday afternoon with Tonyand Becky winning the final. Belmont Brewing Co. was our destination for dinnerSaturday night with 5 landlubbers joining us for that. What a hopping place… goodfood and good fun! Great weekend all! Thank you for coming out to support our club.
April 24-26th will find us taking a longer cruise to Dana Point Yacht Club and thenin May, (Memorial Day weekend), we hope to be able to use the long dock in front ofNYCLB. Fingers crossed!
In the meantime, happy boating everyone! Stay safe and we’ll see you at the club!
