Dear Bailey Lake Families,
Parent Input on Classroom Placement 2013-14
Considerable work is done to ensure the proper place-
ment o each student rom one grade level to the next.
The principal begins the process in the spring with inputrom teaching sta and parents.
Teacher input: Teachers ll out a placement orm or
each student which includes inormation on special
assistance, known disabilities, achievement levels in
math and language arts, test scores, areas o strengths,
areas o academic diculties, and special interests o the child. In addition, there are
comments regarding initiative, sel-control, and work habits. The teachers use this
inormation to build and balance class lists, keeping in mind the number o teachers
provided to sta the building and provisions on the CEA contract relating to
class size.
Parent input: Inormation rom parents must be sub-
mitted during the planning and inormation-
gathering period. District Policy prohibits
parents rom requesting a specic teacher,
but parents may describe their childs
learning style to help us place the child
in a suitable learning atmosphere.
Parent input letters (in writing) must
be received by Mr. Gualtieri by
FRIDAY, May 3, 2013. Notication
o student placement will be made
in late-August.

Dear Bailey Lake Families,
As I am looking at the April calendar, it is really hard to
believe that our children have just had the last break
o this school year! Spring Break is over, and, hopeully,
spring is nally here!
Filled with many un activities, March, a national reading
month, proved to be a great success. A big thank-you to
the Bailey Lake Read-to-Me Committee,
Rebecca Walker andJudy Haas, or organizing and co-
ordinating the Balto and the Great Race reading schedule
and dress-up week. The children loved it! Seuss Night, a
big and traditional part o this month, was another won-
derul event o games and activities dedicated to reading
and math. Thank you to Amy Darnell, the events chair,
our great sta, parents, and all the volunteers who spent
their evening bringing joy to the children!
Speaking o children, even a small commitment can
provide great benets to our kids! We still need to ll a ew
PTA Board positions as well as some program chair posi-
tions. The PTA supplements the curriculum with many pro-
grams that enrich our students, and makes it possible or
teachers obtain additional classroom items. Without your
help this would not be possible. Contact Kim Hardtke at

A ew activities coming up are Kindergarten Orientation
on April 16th, and C.A.T.S day, our school-wide servicelearning day, on April 26th. All 2012-2013
Reections participants and their amilies are invited to
the Reections Awards Reception on April 9th at 6 p.m.
Congratulations to Phoebe Savoie and Mya Brown or
winning the State level in Dance Choreography and Movie
Production in the Primary division. Way to go!

support our programs.

On March 2, three Bailey Lake students shared their love or art by donat-
ing their ramed artwork to the Ryan Kennedy Memorial Fund, which is
raising money or a new park in Clark-
ston, called A Place To Dream. Buckshots
Restaurant hosted a kid rafe and silentauction. The three Bailey Lake students
artwork pieces raised $215. The total
amount raised that evening was $15,000,
thanks to the generosity o the Clarkston
Community and beyond. The students
are hoping to inspire additional artists to
participate next year

Seuss Night 2013 was a huge
success! We had approximately 300
kids and their amilies enjoy the event with
us! Thanks to our wonderul volunteers
who make it all possible BLEs dedicated
sta and parents who gave their time to make the night un,
as well as, the energetic teens who ran the games, painted
Seuss-eric aces, and served as our un-loving mimes. A
very special thank you also goes out to the amilies who
donated delicious cookies. We couldnt do it without all your
help. Seuss Night raised $226! See you next year!

Does Your ChildHave Food Allergies?The odds o you answering yes to that question have been increasin
steadily over past years. We have many children with various ood alle
gies at Bailey Lake, which can be very challenging. The questions and
concerns seem endless. Managing these allergies is hard at home, bu
be much more stressul when your child is at school and not with you
To address these issues and raise awareness among our entire schoolcommunity, we are orming a Bailey Lake Allergy Group. We are in the
inancy o planning, but envision our group supporting one another,
sharing inormation and recipes, raising awareness o our ellow class-
mates and their amilies, developing ideas to celebrate Food Allergy
Awareness Week in May, and possibly even orming a team to walk in
the FARE Walk (Food Allergy Research and Education ormally FAAN)
October o 2013.
We will be contacting our amilies with ood allergies shortly to begin
orming the group. We look orward to hearing new ideas and suppo

CongratulationsMrs. Minot!Every year, Clarkstons PTA Council awards one employee romeach PTA unit with their Dierence Maker Award. This award,given in honor o Founders Day, recognizes the dierence thewinners have made by actively empowering sta, parents orstudents, advocating or all children, demonstrating initiative,ingenuity or creativity in addressing an issue important to theschool amily or community and supporting the work o the PTA.
This year, the BLE PTA has chosen Mrs. Daneil Minot (4th gradeteacher) to receive this award. Mrs. Minot was nominated or,among other things, her work as the data representative or BLEsnew Standard Based Grading System, her research in adapting thePivot Viewer program or use at Bailey Lake which tracks the indi-vidual progress o students at many levels, as well as her constantdedication to each and every child she teaches. From volunteer-ing to do ree tutoring, to personalizing her instruction to eachchilds needs, to supporting our school and PTA, Mrs. Minot is ahuge asset to Bailey Lake and we are thrilled to see her receivethis award.
