LOUISIANA Gold Families,
This is my first letter to you as Commanding Officer,
USS LOUISIANA (GOLD); Sarah and I would like to
thank everyone for their hospitality and support through
the change of command process. We wish Joe and Julie
Turk all the best and fair winds and following seas in
their new assignment at Submarine Squadron 17.
As you read this letter, I hope that you and your Sailor
are enjoying a safe and well-deserved stand down
following our highly successful voyage repair period
where the crew assisted our brothers on LOUISIANA
(BLUE) get underway for their patrol and participated
in several trainers in preparation for our next patrol.
Right before we departed on stand down, we gave MM1
Ashander, ET1 Smith, and ETC Zink a well-deserved
thank you for their dedication and service while aboard
LOUISIANA (GOLD). We wish them the best of luck
in their future duty assignments!
The month of April will bring us the remainder of our
pre-deployment training period. Your Sailor will be
busy attending schools, trainers and making
preparations for our upcoming refit/patrol period. Our
schedule will be demanding for the foreseeable future.
I appreciate the tremendous sacrifices made by all the
LOUISIANA Gold Families in your support of our vital
strategic mission.
Thank you all again for your hospitality welcoming us
to the LOUISIANA (Gold) team – Sarah and I look
forward to our service to you!

LOUISIANA Gold Families,
Since we have returned from sea LOUISIANA and
her crew has been busy. We have worked alongside
the BLUE crew to get her to sea; we had CDR Peters,
relieve CDR Turk as Commanding Officer, enjoyed a
four day stand down, and participated in Command
and Control Exercise trainers, and Navigation trainers
while upholding the highest standards of conduct and
professionalism.
As our leave period approaches I look forward to
each of our Sailors enjoying their leave with family
and friends. This leave period presents the
opportunity for each of us to recharge our batteries
and look forward to the challenges on the horizon.
Upon completion of the seventeen day leave period,
LOUISIANA will enter the trainers for Ship’s
Control, Operations, Fire Fighting trainers and a host
of others. I am sure our men will excel in each of
these areas, while continuing to sharpen their battle
readiness.
Help me wish a farewell to MM1 Ashander, ET1
Smith, ETC Zink and their family’s as they move on
to their next assignment, best of luck to each of them.
Welcome aboard to STSSN Whorton, MMFN
Pennaayala, EM3 O’Hara, and MM3 Ginnings and
each of their families to LOUISIANA.
I encourage each of you to continue to down our path
of success. Maintain a solid, leave/liberty plan; keep
the safety of you and your family in the forefront of
your thoughts and actions. If your plans change
unexpectedly, use all the resources LOUISIANA has
to offer. I wish you all well; enjoy the leave period.
