SAVE THE DATE: MIDLANDS GIVES IS TUESDAY, MAY 5, 2020

A NEW DAY IN CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

Since the founding of Brookland in 1902 the Sunday School has been made up of age group classes meeting on Sunday mornings for an hour’s study of God’s Word, the Holy Bible. As we enter this new decade, 2020, and encourage a relevant ministry to serve this present age, we are recommending a major change in our Sunday School. Sunday School will no longer look, be conducted or taught as we have done the past 118 years. A special committee has worked diligently to address 2 main objectives: 1) Up-date and make Sunday School more meaningful to today’s and future generations, and 2) meet the diversity and technological needs and requirements of our next generation.

As we move forward, the traditional model which has been the only one we have known, will be replaced by a weekly rotational quarterly theme-based learning module.

The module will consist of 5 learning clusters and serve as the hub of our Christian Education for ages 2-12 years: The 5 areas we will embrace are:

Art/Drama

Bible Games Media/IT

Ministry/Music Sports

Our prayer is that these clusters will provide a more enjoyable learning experience through more meaningful subject contents. For example, Art/Drama will contain subjects such as history of art in religion, drawing, painting, history of drama, and Athens, the types of drama, seasonal skits, etc.

Sports will contain sports in the Bible, the 3 Biblical sports, sports and religion, history of or-ganized sports, sports media, teamwork, discipline, etc.

Media/IT will be made up of the Bible and the computer, basic computer, information tech-

nology, game development and design, etc.

Media and Music and Bible Games will consist of a variety of subject matters as well.

The biggest change is that we will no longer refer to Sunday morning study as Sunday School. The new title will be “The Christian Learning Studio”. This title was chosen by our current teachers. So, what we will have is the Christian Learning Studio in the Christian Learning Center.

You will receive information periodically to remain updated, because we will need you to volunteer your services to make this new module work. Volunteers with knowledge and skills in the 5 clusters are seriously needed to work with our youth and teens. If you’re interested and have been looking for a ministry for God to use your gifts and abilities, stop by the tables in the narthex of the sanctuary and lobby in the back of the sanctuary and pick up the information needed to be considered to teach in the Christian Learning Studio. You will be asked to complete a questionnaire and submit an application. We want the very best for our youth and teens. For questions, you may speak with Dr. James Jamison, Dean of Christian Education, or Ms. Wendy Kearney, Superintendent of the Christian Learning Studio.

We have every reason to believe that this will be a powerful presentation on Sunday mornings as we pour into the hearts of our children. Be encouraged to get excited about what God is going to do as we “Build the Next Generation of Believers”.

Again we need volunteers. Stop by a table and pick up a questionnaire and interest application. Be a million dollar volunteer in the service of our God and watch God reward us accordingly.

The Brookland Star April Highlight:

The Brotherhood Ministry, Feeding our Community. The Brookland Brotherhood purchased Fresh produce to be packaged and Distributed to the Seniors in the Community. After packaging and distributing the produce, the Brotherhood would have served over 200 people in the local community. THANK YOU to the volunteers from the Soup Kitchen and Dr. Cindy Cotton who is the Director of the Brookland Lakeview Empowerment Center (the location of the Brookland J.B. Adams Senior program).
