FREE Fort Verde Experience life through the eyes of a frontier sol- dier at Fort Verde State Historic Park March 30th, 2019 from 11:30 a.m to 3 p.m. The fort was a base for General Crook’s U.S. Army scouts and sol- diers in the 1870s and 1880s. From 1865 – 1891, Camp Lincoln, Camp Verde and Fort Verde were home to officers, doctors, families, enlisted men, and scouts. The park is the best-preserved example of an Indian Wars period fort in Arizona. Sever- al of the original buildings still stand and living history programs are scheduled periodically, giv- ing visitors a glimpse into Arizona’s history. Today visitors can experience three historic house museums, all furnished in the 1880s period, that are listed on the National and State Register of Historic Places. The former Administration building houses the Visitor Center with interpretive exhibits, period artifacts from military life, and history on the Indian Scouts and Indian Wars era. The park offers picnic tables, restrooms, RV and tour bus parking, and is ADA Accessible. Entry fees are $7.00 for Adults (14+), $4.00 for Youth (7-13), and FREE for Children (0-6). Fort Verde Experience life through the eyes of a frontier sol-dier at Fort Verde State Historic Park March 30th, 2019 from 11:30 a.m to 3 p.m. The fort was a base for General Crook’s U.S. Army scouts and sol-diers in the 1870s and 1880s. Cookies and Cream Snack Mix

Ingredients

For 6 servings:

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

5 cups rice chex cereal

1 cup powdered sugar

½ cup crushed cookie

CHOCOLATE MIX

1 ½ cups white chocolate

1 teaspoon coconut oil

Preparation: In a medium bowl, mix white chocolate and coconut oil. Melt in microwave for 60 seconds. Stir every 15 seconds until melted. Add extract into melted chocolate. Place cereal in large bowl. Mix in melted chocolate and stir until evenly coated. In a large plastic bag, add powdered sugar, cereal mix and the crushed cookies. Close and shake until each cereal is coated with sugar. Enjoy!

Dixie Marie Carter, 36, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2019 in Phoe-nix. She was born April 29, 1982 in Springerville, the daughter of Butch Gunnels and Rose Marie Linville.

Dixie is survived by her mother, step-father, Terry Linville, fiancé, Bruce Moore, sons, Ronald Carter, Joshua Carter, daughters, Laci Moore, Staci Moore, brothers, Dennis Gunnels, Sean Connolly, Steven Connolly, sisters, Brianne Connolly, Brenda Connolly and grandmother, Ann Gunnels.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Emilio Orona, Dorothy Orona, Billy Gunnels, son, James Alexander Carter and sister, Darci Kim Linville.

Rosary will be held Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Springerville. A Memorial Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow the services at the Springerville Cemetery.

On Friday, March 22, several community members participated in Special Olympics at the Round Valley Dome. Participants included Dallas Wiltbank, Jodie Emerald, Valerie Johnson, Tayneshia Nozie, Ray Done, Ethan Trujillo, Kyra, Eli and Emmitt Nelson, and Angela Gonzales. There were many different activities includ-ing turbo jab, dashes, fast walks, tennis ball throw, and standing long jump. Good job, competitors!!!
