COME TO COR JESU!

All are invited to continue to grow in intimate prayer with Praise & Worship

music and the Sacraments at COR JESU. Cor Jesu is a Latin phrase for

"Heart of Jesus." It is an opportunity for anyone in the Archdiocese of

Milwaukee to continue to encounter Christ through Eucharistic Adoration,

Reconciliation, Praise & Worship, and Mass. Cor Jesu is hosted by St. Robert in

the main sanctuary. It occurs every Wednesday from 7pm to 9pm. Join us

for this amazing opportunity of praise!

7:00 pm: Adoration (with Confession)

8:00 pm: Mass

Cor Jesu is organized by Arise Milwaukee. For more about Arise Milwaukee, visit us at: https://

www.arisemke.org/.

REFLECTIONS FOR THE WEEK—APRIL 8 As you go through the week, think about these questions in relation to today’s readings:

Adults: What could you do this week to inspire your family to resemble the early Christians more closely?

Kids: What could you and your family do to help others who are in need?

DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY!

Immediately after the crucifixion of Jesus, the disciples were afraid that what

happened to him would happen to them. Thus, they secured themselves behind

locked doors. In the confusion over “what next?”, Jesus appeared. They were terrified

because they thought it was a ghost.

This appearance of the Risen Lord to the apostles on the evening of Easter has a

double significance: (1) He now has a spiritual or resurrected body endowed with all

the divine glory; hence he can pass through the walls and locked doors (20:19); He is

not bound by space and time any more. (2) He is in close solidarity with humanity,

offering them something they long for: peace and joy (20:19-21). The scars from the

wounds on His hands and His side confirm that He is the same Jesus (20:20). The joy

of the disciples when they see Him is only a fulfillment of the promise he made at the

Last Supper: “I will see you again and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take

away your joy from you” (16:22).

Faith in the Risen Lord gives us the power to overcome our fears and doubts, and

empowers us with the Spirit, to carry forward His mission of peace and reconciliation. The Risen Lord again grants

His disciples peace. The meaning of this greeting is not aimed at preventing all strife. It is a granting of wholeness

and completeness that is now possible through the resurrection of Jesus. It is a commissioning of the disciples to

carry on the work Jesus had been doing while on earth. They are empowered to carry this out through the gift of

the Holy Spirit that Jesus breathes on the disciples.

The purpose of the resurrection of Jesus is to give courage to overcome our fears of living and proclaiming the

gospel. Remember that during His trial, the disciples abandoned Him. They had demonstrated their lack of

courage. But when He rose and appeared he greeted them with peace, not recrimination. He showed them

mercy, not retribution. As the Lord God breathed life into Adam at the creation, Jesus breathed life into His

disciples and made them a new creation.

In the same way He sent his disciples to bring God’s merciful forgiveness to the world, He is sending us too. As they

rejoiced when they saw the Lord, they went forth to bring that joy to everyone. They got out of the upper room

and left their fears behind. Let us also get out and reach others.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Fr. Peter Patrick
