We would love for you to be involved – in fact, we need you! In order to keep up with the growing parish community and to allow volunteers to move on to new challenges, we have a number of parish ministries which are looking for help. When we have enough people helping out, the burden is made lighter for everyone. Please consider whether you can help us with any of the following…and remember that no gift of your time is too small if it is given in love! Readers and Eucharistic ministers: These are both such important ministries for the liturgical life of the parish, and they require very little of your time. We will soon be providing training sessions for readers and Eucharistic ministers. If you want to find out more about these ministries please contact Trudy Connelly at 819-743-2910 or by e-mail at [email protected] . Altar servers: We are looking for altar servers to help out at all the Masses. This is open to girls, boys, men or women. We provide training to help new altar servers, and they are usually paired with a more experienced altar server to start out. If you are interested in having more information, please get in touch with Trudy Connelly at (819) 743-2910 or by e-mail at [email protected] . Music Ministry: The people who lead the singing at the 5:00 p.m. Mass on Saturday evenings take a well-deserved break over the summer. We are looking for someone (or you might want to invite some friends to join you!) to volunteer to lead the community in song on occasion over the summer. Chris Santillan, who leads the music ministry at the 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. Sunday Masses could help you with selections. If you want to find out how you can help with this, please contact Chris Santillan at (819) 661-4247 or by e-mail at [email protected]

Sacristans: If you would like to serve St. Mark's behind the scenes, and to enjoy some quiet time in the church, this may be a way for you to do so. Sacristans give about an hour of their time during the day on Saturday to prepare the linens, vessels and altar for the weekend Masses. Altar linen is taken home to be washed and returned before the subsequent weekend Masses. This is a beautiful way to assist the church in your own personal, quiet way. If you are interested, or have any questions, please contact Kathleen O’Halloran at (819) 685-9912. Taking minutes for the various committees: The Fabrique and the Liturgy committee are both looking for someone to take minutes at their meetings. This is a good way to become involved in the discussions that go on “behind the scenes”! If you are interested in helping with this, please contact the Parish office at (819) 684-6926 or by e-mail to [email protected] . Upcoming First Communions and Confirmations at St. Mark’s Easter is the ideal season for celebrating the Sacraments of Initiation – Baptism, Confirmation and First Eucharist. Last Sunday, we celebrated baptisms during the 11:00 Mass and in the afternoon. What a pleasure for our community! As a community, we welcome the newer members of our community with open arms. Our welcome matters – it conveys our deepest identity as brothers and sisters in Christ! But we are also creatures of habit, so this time forces us to make a few adjustments as Mass might be a little bit longer, a bit more crowded, and someone might even be sitting in our favourite pew! Your patience and generosity is greatly appreciated in these matters. You may want to take note of the following dates:

First Communion: May 2 at 5:00 p.m.; May 3 at 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.; and May 10 at 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Confirmation: May 16 at 5:00 p.m.

Please keep these young people and their families in your prayers in this last stretch of their preparation for First Communion and Confirmation. Adults wanting to be baptized or confirmed Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist are known as the sacraments of initiation. We usually associate these sacraments (which include First Communion) with children. Increasingly in our society, older teenagers and adults are realizing that they have been baptized, but have not celebrated any other sacraments. Or that they have made their First Communion, but not been confirmed. This is quite commonplace today, and provides us with an opportunity to journey with adults who wish to be confirmed and join the community at the Eucharistic table. Together, we prepare for these sacraments in an adult way, respecting the life experience and faith journey of each person. Would you like to be baptized? Would you like to be confirmed? Would you like to journey with other adults who are preparing for these sacraments? If so, please contact our pastoral associate, Julie Cool, by e-mail ([email protected]) or by leaving a message at the parish office at (819) 684-6926.

Mark your calendars for St. Mark’s Annual Spring Dinner This annual dinner commemorates and celebrates our patron saint whose feast day is April 25th and will be held here at the church on Friday, May 1, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. Tickets: Adults $12; Children 5-12 years $5; Children 4 and under are free. Cash wine bar. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. No ticket sales at door. For tickets call: Pat (819) 684-7798; Marina (819) 684-5903. Many thanks to the CWG for organizing this important annual event. Sow much love… and thanks to give! To mark the end of the 2015 Share Lent campaign, DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE wishes to underscore the outstanding contribution of everyone who took part in the campaign. The St. Marks parishioners generously gave $4,047 to helping our sisters and brothers in the Global South -- for contributing to stop hunger in the world. We also wish to thank our donors whose generosity will directly support communities in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East in their struggle for dignity and justice. Thank you to one and all for your generosity! Please help our money counters – write the amount of your donation on your envelope Every week, a small group of dedicated parishioners join together to prepare the deposit of the collection taken up over the week-end. It would make their job much easier if parishioners could write the amount of their contribution on their envelope – if we each take a few seconds, it saves them a lot of time! Thanks for your help!
