This song was written in 1908The year that Bill Tapia was born!

Jack Norworth's 1908 American Music classic composition waswritten on some scrap paper on a train ride to Manhattan. Norworth thenprovided those paper-scrap lyrics to Albert Von Tilzer who composed themusic, which in turn was published by the York Music Company, and beforethe year 1908 was over, a hit song was born. Jack Norworth was a verysuccessful vaudeville entertainer & songwriter and he spent about fifteenminutes writing this classic which is sung during the seventh inning stretchat every ballpark in the country. On the 50th anniversary of his song, MajorLeague Baseball presented Jack Norworth, who attended his first MajorLeague ballgame on June 27, 1940 (Brooklyn Dodgers 5 vs. Chicago Cubs 4),with a lifetime Major League Ballpark pass.

Written by Buddy Holly and Norman Petty and recorded at Petty Studios in Clovis, New Mexico during the Summer of 1958. Petty was Holly's producer and manager. This was the last single Holly recorded with The Crickets. In the last few months of his life, he moved to New York and began recording with more elaborate production techniques, including string sections. Buddy Holly was known for his innovative guitar riffs, but he didn't play lead guitar on this one. A session guitarist named Tommy Allsup did. Allsup also played in Holly's band on his last tour. Many of Holly's fans consider this one of his best songs, but it was never released as a single. Linda Ronstadt had a hit with this in 1977. Her version went to #5 on the US charts. .

Tennessee Waltz (3/4 Time) Key of C

Verse 1 | C | Cmaj7 | C7 | F

I was waltzing with my darlin to the Tennessee Waltz

| C | A7 | D7 | G7 When an old friend I happened to see.

| C | Cmaj7 | C7 | F I Introduced him to my loved one and while they were waltzing

| C | G7 | C | C my friend stole my sweetheart from me.

Chorus 1 | C | E7 | F | C

I remember the night and the Tennessee Waltz

| C | A7 | D7 | G7 Now I know just how much I have lost.

| C | C | C7 | F Yes, I lost my little darlin’ the night they were playin’

| C | G7 | C | C that beautiful Tennessee Waltz.

Verse 2 | C | Cmaj7 | C7 | F

Now I wonder how a dance like the Tennessee Waltz

| C | A7 | D7 | G7 Could have broken my heart so com- plete.

| C | Cmaj7 | C7 | F Well I couldn’t blame my darlin’, and who could help fallin’

| C | G7 | C | C In love with my darlin’ so sweet.

Chorus 2 | C | E7 | F | C

Well it must be the fault of the Tennessee Waltz

| C | A7 | D7 | G7 Wish I’d known just how much it would cost.

| C | C | C7 | F But I didn’t see it commin’, it’s all over but the cryin’

| C | G7 | C | C Blame it all on the Tennessee Waltz.

Chorus 2
