This month kicks off our Men’s Night and Ladies Day programs that run every Tuesday for men through October 1 and ladies through October 29. This month’s newsletter is packed with numerous great activities for you and your family to get involved with. Check out the information below about the season opening kickoff event on Saturday, April 6, where you can learn about our offerings for kids and adults. The courses are greening up, and we anticipate great conditions this season. Here are a few quick reminders as we start the season off. Please use proper cart etiquette. If carts are supposed to be on the path, please keep all four wheels on the path. When we are using the 90-degree rule, please travel on the paths when possible, then proceed to your ball. And perhaps the most violated cart rule: when you are within 20 yards of any tee or green, please return to the path. This is our club, and we have to work together in order to keep it in great condition. In the coming months we’ll have more reminders regarding raking bunkers, repairing ball marks, staying caught up with group in front of you, keep- ing seeds and cigars off greens and more. Thank you in advance for respecting your fellow members and our golf facilities! Finally, we want to welcome all the new members joining the club in the last few months. Sometimes this leads to the question of, “Are we full, and can we handle all of these new people?” Industry professionals will tell you country clubs are considered healthy with 400 to 450 full golfing members per course. To date, we have 652 full privilege golfing memberships (Full, Senior, Intermediate, Junior and Heritage) for two courses. In addition to that we have another 485 members that are either Weekday, Executive Golf, or Tennis only. So, by normal measures, we are “healthy.” The number of members is one indicator of health, but the most significant mea- sure of how busy a club is should be determined by number of rounds of golf. From 1985 through 2005, we averaged 85,000 rounds (total both courses) with a peak in 1999 of 93,598 rounds of golf. In 2018 Windyke fell below 50,000 rounds for the first time since the sixties. Full capacity for 18 hole golf courses in this area is approximately 60,000 rounds. Granted, that number is extreme for a private club. We believe a healthy number for Windy- ke is in the 65,000-75,000 round range. Assuming we have 100 more members this year than last, and each new member plays 60 rounds, we will still have less than 56,000 rounds. Fifty Six Thousand rounds would put us in the top 5 slowest years in the last 40. So, no, we are not going to be too crowded. And yes we can fully accommodate our members. As we mentioned, we have membership space available, but we will be modifying our membership program beginning in April. The 10% discount for new members and refer- ring members ended on March 31st. Going forward new members may mitigate the mem- bership initiation fee by fulfilling a one-year commitment. We believe that you are the best recruiters of new members. So, when you are named as the referring member by a new member, you will receive a Windyke Club Credit equal to the new members’ first month dues amount. The credit will be posted to your account upon the new member paying their first month of dues. The membership office will provide you a letter explaining how to use the credit. This club wide credit can be used for all activities at the club except dues. A healthy membership base allows us to maintain the standard of quality and value which you are ac- customed. If you would like our staff to contact a prospective member, we would love to do so! Just send us their contact information. Thank you for your support of Windyke. We value you and your opinions. Clubhouse RenovationThe club started renovating the room attached to the Men’s Locker Room and Bar & Grille room on Monday, March 4. The room should be partially completed and the temporary wall in the Bar and Grille should be done in early April. When officially complete, this new Board Room will seat up to 20 and be avail-able for rental for meetings and luncheons. Additionally, it will be used as an overflow area for member dining in the Bar & Grille during busy times. Contact Steven in Food and Beverage to learn more about how to rent and use this space.

Jimmy Rainwater, PGAAssistant Golf ProfessionalWhat Makes it Work?

If you haven’t tried on a Puma golf shoe, then you are missing out on a comfortable and well-built product. The new Puma PWRADAPT has a variety of features that make it work: • PUMA IGNITE FOAM - Ignite Foam in the sole of the shoe increases comfort, creates better long-lasting feel, and responds during the golf swing. The Ignite Foam also allows the shoe to mesh with the ground, creating better traction. •THE PWRFRAME - Puma’s PWRFRAME is a system of integrated supports in the shoe that stabilize the foot by applying pressure in the right places, which allows for high performance while maintaining the health of your foot. • PERFORMANCE MESH - The Performance Mesh allows for a more athletic and comfortable fit without the long break in period.

If you have any questions about the Puma PWRADAPT, or would like to try on a pair in the shop, come see us and we’ll show you

what makes it work! Windyke Price: $149.99 (Retail price: $170)

It’s almost that time again! Last year was the 11th year for our very successful Tuesday Night Men’s Group. This year promises to be the biggest and best one yet!

The formats will remain similar to last year’s Men’s Night with two divisions. For several years we have been flighting the event so that players were only competing against players of similar abilities. Due to the success of the flighting we went one step further. We included a gross division. The formats will closely follow the regular formats, but there will be no handicap involved. The purpose of this was to not only attract more players but to also allow more players to feel as if they have a great chance of competing no matter their handicap. This will strictly be a voluntary flight so you will have to sign up for it each week and can go back and forth if you choose between the scratch division and the regular division. There will be a 6.9 and below index suggested to play in the scratch group. Players play the gold tees except those 60+ play the white tees. This was something that was asked for by players already playing in Men’s Night and we hope that those interested will not only participate, but get their friends who have not played in Men’s Night before to play as well.

This year, we will again award points for playing and for finishing “in the money.” We will then keep up with the points and post them to our website, so that you can track your progress. We will use $1 of each player’s weekly entry fee to build a pot that will be awarded to the top 20 players after the season is over at the final event, which will be held on Sunday, October 6th.

One of the reasons that we feel we were so successful is there is no league to join and you did not have to play in every event to win. This will still be the case with 95% of the weekly entry fee going directly to that week’s event. So, if you are a new member or have been around since the trees were planted, this will be a great time for you to come out and meet other Windyke members or maybe find a new group to play with during other times of the week. We again will be making the pairings each week, so sign up will be strictly individual. One of the main reasons for starting this group is for members to meet other members and get out of the routine of playing with the same old group each week.

A few of the most important points are listed below:

•Tuesdaysat5:30pmforthemajorityoftheseason •Calltosignupby2:00pmontheTuesdaythatyouwishtoplay •OfficialplaywithpointsApril2–October1 with the Final being on Sunday, October 6 •$20perweektoplayincludingcartandprizes •Prizespaidouteachweek •Windykeproshopstafftomakepairingseachweek •Pointsraceforayear-longchampion •Optionaldinnerwhileyouwaitforprizes •Lotsoffun!

This group is a huge success because of your feedback and your commitment to support it. In order to keep it successful we will again need your support and participation. We also need you to tell your friends so that this group will continue to grow.

Since starting at Windyke, Luke Reilly has dedicated the majority of his time into improving his capabili-ties as a teacher, coach, and club fitter. Last fall, Luke spent several days in California learning about the physics and proper protocol behind club fitting from the Callaway Master Fitting Team. This training has been vital in helping him effectively fit members and recognize issues in clubs that members have not been properly fit for.

In 2018, Luke became a Certified PGA Professional in Teaching and Coaching. This program provided him with the opportunity to increase his understanding of the golf swing, create structured practice programs, and understand different types of learning styles.

Most recently, Luke received his Level 1 Certification for the Titleist Performance Institute. TPI’s philosophy is to teach professionals the importance of the body and how it relates to the golf swing. After screening other professionals and going through a screen as well, he realized how important it is to understand the body deficiencies students may have, and how under-standing those deficiencies will help him better teach and coach his students.

“As a teaching professional my goal is to help people play better golf and enjoy the learning process! I am extremely excited to take what I’ve learned and help our Windyke members play better golf!” -Luke

Triple FormatApril6WestCourse•8:00amShotgun

Lunch Included

If you have never played in a Triple Format event then you owe it to yourself to check this one out. The way a Triple Format works is the first nine holes is a best ball, the second nine is a scramble, and then after lunch, the last nine is alternate shot. This is one of those formats that players talk about and tell stories for years to come. So, if you are looking to kick start your golf tournament season with a fun event then this one is for you! Guidelines are as follows: •TwoPersonTeams •MakeYourOwnTeamorsignupasanindividualandwewillpairyou. •Thiseventisopentoallclassificationsofmembersandeachteammayhave1guest •Eachteam’shandicapisbasedonthefollowingformulausingaplayer’sUSGAhandicap: Sum of the two players HANDICAP minus ½ of the difference. Example: Greg 4 Russ 1 5–1.5=3.5 We will then use the team’s handicap to flight the teams before play. Once your team’s handicap has been used for flighting purposes it will not be used again.

Tip from the ProI had a wonderful time with the ladies at our opening clinic at end of March. My area was putting as Brent and Luke took bunker and chipping, respectively. I was able to express a system of analysis for each lady so that each could identify their own alignment bias and how to troubleshoot its issues. About 75% of the ladies aimed too much to the left when faced with a straight 10 foot putt. 20% aimed right. Yes, that leaves 5% that actually aimed correctly (somewhere within the holes edges)! Imagine if that is typical of golfers at the club. Only 1 in 20 aims correctly! You might say that you are better than that, but I include myself in the group that aimed too much left. Thankfully I was able to remedy that problem five years ago and it has really helped my putting.

As a quick tip for those who aimed too much left, I told them that something had to move left to fix it. It could be their head or the grip, or both. As you can imagine, the tip for right aimers was to move their head or grip to the right. What that means is you have to move your feet to move your head in that direction. For grip move-ment, increase or decrease your forward press. It will take a little practice to get used to it, but it will pay off.For example, a left aimer will make compensations like shoving the putt to the right to fix the aim. This is a tension building and stroke deteriorating compensation! Take my tip and you will begin to miss more putts right and then you can work on releasing the putter head freely to get all things in sync.

Let me help you with your putting issues this year. I have great tools to identify and improve your motion.

Windyke and Club Corp Member BenefitsIn April of 2018, we announced a new partnership alliance between our Club and the over 400 Club Corp of America properties. Every member of Windyke is listed with Club Corp as a member and you are entitled to member benefits when you travel to an area where they own a club or have an affiliate club like ours. Besides access, you will receive up to 30% discount at all of these properties when you book them through their 24-hour concierge service.

You can go online to explore your membership benefits at: clubcorpnetwork.com. Choose Windyke as your home club then click what town you’re going to visit and what activities you’re interested in and you can see what facilities are available in an area or call the (800)433-5079 concierge line and they can tell you all about the areas you are traveling to and the deals they can help with.

The benefit described above is included with your membership at no additional cost to you. If you want to get more value when you travel, you can have it. For $50 per month added to your Windyke membership you can become a Signature Gold Member, which entitles you to play at any of the Club Corp facilities once a month for you and your spouse for only a cart fee. If it’s a club owned by Club Corp, you receive free rental clubs on this program. Additionally, you can receive a complimentary four course meal for you and your spouse once a month at each of their out of town dining facilities throughout the country as well. There is nor-mally a $1,000 enrollment fee, however we have convinced Club Corp to offer 20 free Signature Gold enroll-ment opportunities to kick off the 2019 golfing season.
