It’s time for the Golden Empire Region to Host the Spring Autocross at the
Minter Field Airport again. GEM is so fortunate to have this airport’s runway available
to us again. And this event is a huge fund raiser for GEM.
All members are encourage to pitch in and help out with something during the event.
Last year we had several PCA members driving from as far away as Los Angeles and San Di-
ego to participate in our AX event.
Let’s show all of Zone 8 what a great event we can produce !

2015 Zone 8 Autocross Season
Drivers,
If you’re curious about autocross and want to learn more visit the Zone 8 autocross webpage or contact me for
more information. Autocross is a great way for new or seasoned drivers to learn more about their Porsches!
The 2015 Zone 8 Autocross season started with the Grand Prix Region (GPX) Region Day-Away-From-Work
DE/AX on the 9th of March. The weather was beautiful with moderate temperatures and no wind at the Streets
of Willow track. Aside from issues with the timing equipment that precluded timing the day was perfect and all
of the drivers had a great time. Thanks to the GPX team for hosting another great event! Jimmy Mitchel, GPX
Photographer, too a bunch of pictures which you view on Google+. Since the timing equipment didn’t work, all
drivers will receive 5 points for the event.
The Santa Barbera Region (SBR) will be hosting the next Zone 8 AX on April 25th at the Camarillo Airport
(see attached flyer). The registration site is open and you can sign up now! The entry fee includes a great BBQ
lunch and the track is always challenging. I have found that nimble cars do well at Camarillo. I am already
signed up, hope to see you there!
Right on the heels of the SBR event, on May 3rd, the Golden Empire Region will have their first of two auto-
crosses of the year on the runways of Minter Field at the Shafter Airport, about 5 miles north of Bakersfield
just off highway 99. This is a more than 90 second track with lots of variation in speed and difficulty and is a
favorite of drivers like Mike Dolphin, Mike Furnish and Kent Verderico! Here is a video that Kent made of his
top-time-of-day lap from last fall’s event https://youtu.be/tBvyHYNsabQ. You can see the tracks on the parking
apron of the airport in this satellite view from Google Maps. If you need a place to stay I have had several
friends stay at the Hampton Inn at California and Oak Street. Another hotel I have used that is trailer friendly
was the Best Western Crystal Palace Inn & Suites. Hope to see you there!
Remember you have to drive in at least 6 of the Zone 8 autocrosses to qualify for a year end award. Plan your
calendar accordingly!
Sincerely Yours,
David Witteried
Zone 8 Autocross Chairman

And talking about Roaring like a Lion, Mr. Stumbaugh took the plunge

Yep, one turbo was just not enough for our pal Loren !

Lets think about another drive to Parkfield.
Maybe if enough are interested we can bring it up for discussion.
Last year we enjoyed a nice drive on Hwy 58 West to the Parkfield turnoff.
A little bumpy but a lot of fun. Waiting for us was a great Tri Tip BBQ Lunch.
The headcount is needed for the BBQ Lunch

PCA – Golden Empire Region
Board Meeting Minutes
17 March 2015 5:30pm
Woolgrowers
Board Members Present:
Linn Christopher (President)
Pat Wadman (Vice President)
Charles Anderson (Secretary)
Items for Discussion
Linn:
February minutes approved by board.
PCA Administration has changed the membership renewal date to always be at the end of the month.
Charles Rooks would like to have an “All German” event at Minter field. Date to be determined.
Linn reminded everyone of the upcoming donation events at MARE and the Minter Field Air Museum.
Linn would like to establish a 3-person sub-committee to coordinate all rides/runs.
Another lengthy discussion about the need for insurance for all publicized GEM events.
Linn reminded everyone that the Festival of Speed will be held on April 10-12, 2015 at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana.
Pat:
The Concours-prep event had a good response and went well. The next one will be March 28th.
Chuck
From the February meeting:
The membership would like to consider expanding the number of charitable organizations for future donations. In the next newsletter, Mike
Thomas will solicit suggestions from the membership for worthy organizations. Each suggestion should indicate why the organization is a
“good fit” for a club donation.
Linn thinks the web site advertising rates may be too high. He will work with Anton to adjust.
Other Items:
Progressive dinner: Bob Goon presented a proposal for a Progressive Dinner. Bob will solicit volunteers and coordinate the event for a pos-
sible June date.
Emails: Loren noted that some members were having problems with his Emails where only the first half of the Email text was visible. P lease
let Loren know if this happens and he will resend the Email.
Loren also mentioned that any member wanting to contact the entire membership (to seek volunteers, ask opinions, etc.) should send a request
to him and he will send it out to the entire club.
Autocross Equipment: Greg Fullmer had a question regarding equipment for the Autocross. Omar indicated that they have all the required
equipment.
Regional Trophy: Mike Thomas handed the trophy to Gregg Fullmer.

Please Provide Suggestions Of Groups that we can Include in our Donations
As you may have noticed within the Board Meeting Minutes there has been a request made to select some new
Organizations or perhaps individuals that we can consider assisting this year through monies raised from our GEM
events.
Some very good suggestions of organizations have been already been made. At this time we are asking the member-
ship to please write short description of the organizations or individuals that you feel would be a “good fit” to
receive our funding.
I know some of you, throughout your work week see people and groups that one or two thousand dollars would
mean the world to. It’s hard for us members to realize that right here in Kern County there are children going to
sleep hungry, families struggling to provide even the basics for their families, or elderly that time has forgotten.
People within our community going without things throughout their daily lives that all of us take for granted.
M.A.R.E. and the Air Museum are two very good and deserving groups. And those groups can still continue to
benefit from our group’s generosity. But I know many of us would like to see monies donated to help reduce the
daily burdens of low income or other misfortunes that so many Kern Families struggle with each day.
Please take the time to step up and present suggestions of what you believe will help to benefit lives here in Kern
County.
Suggestions should written in a brief form that describes the group or individuals that you would like for the
Golden Empire Region of the PCA to consider assisting.
Please send those suggestion by Email to me at, [email protected].
