Remember Your First Savings AccountRemember Your First Savings Account

Do you remember your first savings account? I remember when my father took me to the bank at about the age of six.

Our parents dressed up just to go to the bank! I remember standing by red velvet ropes that reflected where we had to

wait our turn! My Dad gave me $5 to open my first savings account. The teller gave me a “passbook” savings book that

we would take each time I would make a deposit and she would record my deposit and my new balance. I remember how

grown up and important that I felt having my own savings book…..Jump ahead 10 years and I got my license to drive a car

and an ATM card and suddenly I am shopping at the grocery store and running errands for my parents. There were not

many ATMs back then! Flash ahead another 10 years and my husband and I were offered the opportunity to join a credit

union through the company where he works. We could open a checking account with no fees and borrow money at a low

interest rate with payroll deduction right from his pay. We never missed a payment and a little each pay paid the payment

and put a little aside in a savings account. Soon we opened our checking after much disgust with the banks and their mini-

mum balance requirements and fees. The friendly and personalized service resulted in a permanent relationship. Borrow-

ing has never been so easy. Approval along with a check is usually within 24 hours when you apply for a loan. Many peo-

ple that join the credit union never actually visit in person. With the ATM, Home Banking, and now Mobile Deposits, you

may never really have to visit the credit union after you join. We hope that all of you bring your children to the credit union

to open their first savings account so that they can develop a life long relationship at Greater Pittsburgh Police Federal

Credit Union. We want them to have the same great memories and make the right choice in using a credit union instead of

a bank. Need a financial service? Visit us at the credit union. We will treat you right.
