The season has closed for our Play No.1, Other Times and everyone involved should be very proud. It was a great presentation, second play in Ray Lawler’s Summer of the Seventeenth Doll trilogy. Director Leo Wockner, did a splen-did job in bringing this great Australi-an play to life. All the cast were out-standing and the set was simple but so effective. All the backstage crew and box crew should also be congrat-ulated. ‘Stage Whispers’ Peter Pinne en-joyed the play too and commented favourably on the cast, but included some other comments - “Karen Stokes’s set design was period appro-priate, as were the costumes by Pat Wockner and Mary Woodall, with Leo Wockner’s pacy direction adding to the overall performance.” So all in all, Other Times will go down as another VP success. We now look forward to play No.2, Ha-beas Corpus a fast-moving farce di-rected by Brian Cannon.

Congratulations to Leo Wockner, cast and crew for a very successful run of the play Other Times. It was such great "ensemble" production and I'm not saying that because I was in it, but due to the camaraderie and teamwork. Special thanks to Am-ber Hegarty as Assistant Stage Manager, Mary Woodall and Pat Wockner for costumes; Iona Col-lege for the loan of the army uniforms; Karen Stokes for stepping in for Stephen to operate the lights that rainy Thursday night; Mickey for running a tight FOH ship and welcome to new crew member Lyndley Barton. Also, many thanks to Leo, Dan, Maria, Rod, Andrew and all other members who worked tirelessly on Box Office and FOH. Rehearsals have commenced for Habeas Cor-pus which is being directed by Brian Cannon and opens Friday 6th June. This is a hilarious play ..very, very funny, so please book your night

to see this great play and a night for you to help with FOH. Bookings are now available both online or simply by calling Mickey on 07 3899 9962 By now many of you would have received your new members/subscribers card in the mail. This is to replace the paper booklets. Apologies for the delay - production of these took longer than ex-pected. Lastly, I would like to wish you and your fami-lies a very safe, happy and blessed Easter. Cheers, Liz Morris PRESIDENT

Hello Everyone,

MARCH MONTHLY MEETING

"Room 22 at the Grand Comfort Hotel", a one-act play by Pamela McManus, was presented as a cold reading. The cast of 7 received their scripts only an hour before going on stage, when a short discus-sion about the characters was held, and a quick walk around the ex-isting set established where entrances and exits would be. All props were "acted".

While we would prefer to present rehearsed and fully acted pieces at the Monthly Meeting training ground, cold readings have their own value. Reading well from an unknown script is a skill that all actors should have in their kit-bags, and should be practised at every oppor-tunity. The actors usually start out tentatively, but as the play pro-gresses they gain confidence in what they are doing and develop di-mensions to the characters. The members in the audience get an op-portunity to see that development, and also to appreciate the text and extend their critical script assessment abilities.

This play was first presented by the Players in the Warana One-act Play Festival at the Brisbane Arts Theatre in 1984. It was directed by Mary Woodall. For those interested in such details the original cast was Lyn Stanley, Terry Wockner, Chris Hitzman, Dean Armstrong, Ber-nadette Bielenberg, Rod Thompson and Maria Plumb. It was produced at the request of Playlab as part of their script development services, and is published by Playlab Press. In this reading the cast was Glynne Liddy, Andrew Heron, Trevor Bond, Donna Gomez, Mary Woodall, Leo Bradley and Maria Plumb, who did not play the same role as in the original. The play is a light comedy farce, and is a little Fawlty Towers, a little Hotel Paradiso, but set in Tropical Queensland, and gave the audience some good laughs. FUTURE FEATURES The Casting Committee would like to hear from anyone who wants to present at a Monthly Meeting this year. If you would like to, but don't know what to present, contact us and we can put you in touch with a script and cast and let you have your head. Be in it! Maria Plumb For Casting Committee
